Alexandria University Council Reviews Its International Rankings
Alexandria University Council, in its session chaired by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, reviewed the results of Alexandria University in the international rankings for the year 2023, where Dr. Boshra Salem, Assistant President of the University for University Rankings, indicated:
In the British Times Higher Education ranking (THE) impact Ranking, for the goals of sustainable development, Alexandria University ranked 401-600 in good health and well-being (3rd goal), gender equality (5th goal), decent work and economic growth (8th goal), and the seventeenth goal, which is related to partnership to achieve the goals.
In the Dutch "Leiden" ranking of international universities, which depends on the university's evaluation in the indicators of scientific impact, the index of international partnerships and cooperation, the index of publishing in open journals, and the index of gender equality, Alexandria University ranking came in the third place at the local level, the fourth locally in the field of health sciences, biology, and medicine, the third in the field of science and life, the seventh in the field of mathematics and computer sciences, the fifth in the field of physical sciences and engineering, and the third in the field of humanities and social sciences.
• As for the QS World Ranking, Alexandria University advanced by 100 places, as its classification became from 901: 950 at the international level.
In the Russian RUR ranking, which depends on indicators of education, scientific research, diversity of international relations, and economic sustainability, Alexandria University came in second place locally in general.
President of Alexandria University Directs to Raise Maximum Emergency Level in University Hospitals to Receive Victims of Collapsed Building
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, directed today both Professor Dr. Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, and Professor Dr. Executive Director, to raise the level of readiness in University Hospitals, to receive cases resulting from the collapse of the apartment building in Miami area, that occurred earlier this morning.
Dr. Konsowa gave directions to the university hospitals to be totally ready to deal with all emergency cases resulting from the collapsed building, and to continue raising the level of readiness during the blessed Eid Al-Adha holiday. He also directed a review of the availability of stocks for medicines, supplies and blood banks, as well as the shifts of medical staff members and so on, as well as the readiness of emergency departments to deal with any accidents or emergencies during the holiday period.
Alexandria University Council Honours Professors Who Obtained DSc Degree in Mathematics
Alexandria University Council headed by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, honoured Dr. Alaa Abdelwahed Abdelbarry, Vice President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and Dr. Hamdy Mahmoud Mohamed Youssef, Professor of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Education, Alexandria University, on the occasion of their receiving the degree of “Doctor of Science in Mathematics” (DSc) from the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University. Doctor of Science (DSc) is the highest scientific degree; it is awarded to the candidate for all their scientific work and requires the submission of innovative research. Arbitration for this degree is carried out by three arbitrators holding fellowships from the British Royal Society and from prestigious European universities. The Faculty of Science has previously awarded the degree of Doctor of Science in the field of Chemistry, but it is the first time that such a degree has been awarded in the field of Mathematics.
The university president confirmed that this ceremony comes within the framework of Alexandria University’s encouragement of honourable models, pointing out that the honourees are of the highest calibre, and are the best representation Alexandria University whether internally or externally. He added that Alexandria University cooperates with all scientific institutions in order to achieve one goal, which is to serve the Egyptian state and achieve its vision to provide high quality educational services.
For their part, the honourees expressed their pride in this honour within their alma mater university, stressing the status of Alexandria University and its role in providing honourable cadres who occupy prestigious positions inside and outside Egypt.


Alexandria University Council Forms Financial Aid Committee Supporting Outstanding Students at International Programs
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, at the outset of the University Council meeting, conveyed his greetings on the occasion of the approaching Eid al-Adha, and the anniversary of the June 30 revolution, which represented a fundamental shift and a milestone in the history of the homeland to restore its identity and freedom, during which the will of the Egyptians wrote an immortal epic to preserve Egypt’s identity, writing in history the glorious birth of a new path of national action, to launch the process of development and construction in all fields for the establishment of the new republic.

• The Council also congratulated the newly elected board members of the Faculty Members Club, after the elections that took place last Friday at the club's headquarters. Dr. Konsowa stressed that all forms of support will be provided to the new board, to help it achieve its important societal role, noting that there are ongoing development processes in the club to be a suitable forum for faculty members and their families.
• Within the framework of the social responsibility of Alexandria University, the Council approved the formation of a committee to study the establishment of the Scholarships Office of Alexandria University in cooperation with civil society institutions and businessmen, to provide scholarships for financially struggling outstanding students, to study with double degrees and joint degrees at the bachelor's and postgraduate levels. Dr. Konsowa stressed that the university confirms that the lack of financial ability of the outstanding and creative students will not be an obstacle to achieving their academic ambitions.
• The Council approved the adoption of the Pharmaceutical Economics program, which is a credit hours system professional master's degree at the Faculty of Pharmacy, between the departments of pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, and pharmacy practice.
• The Council approved the second phase of the Alexandria University Research Support Initiative (Alex-RSI) and increased its budget from 200,000 to 300,000 EGP per project, with the aim of highlighting outstanding research results and supporting international scientific publishing, by rewarding researchers who publish in high-ranked international journals.
• The Council approved the partnership agreement between Alexandria University and the Francophone University Agency - Montreal Quebec - Canada, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Agriculture) and South Ural University in Russia in the field of functional food and nutrition, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Physical Education for Women) and Terry Fox College of Sport Science & Business in Canada, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and St. Petersberg Electrotechnical University in Russia, and the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The council also approved the cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Business) and the Ashrakat Charitable Foundation, the cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Science) and the Egyptian company for the production of ethylene and its derivatives "ETHYDCO", memorandums of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Pharmacy), the Ministry of Health, Alexandria Pharmaceutical Company, 57357 Hospital and MedZine Pharmaceutical Company, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Institute of Graduate Studies and Research) and the Basel Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer to Arab Countries, and the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Agriculture) and Al-Fateh Dairy Products Factory.
• The council approved the promotion of 29 faculty members, 17 to the position of professor, 12 to the position of associate professor, the appointment of 13 lecturers, and the granting of 80 doctoral degrees and 107 master's degrees in various scientific disciplines.







Dr. Konsowa Inaugurates Twentieth Annual Conference of Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, inaugurated the activities of the twentieth annual conference of the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology, headed by Dr. Tarek Safwat, Professor of Pulmonology at Ain Shams University. The inauguration session was attended by Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Essam Gouda, Professor of Pulmonology at Alexandria University and Conference Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Hantira, Vice-President of the Conference, Dr. Ahmed Youssef, Head of the Chest Department, Dr. Ayman Baeis, Vice-President of the Conference, in addition to Dr. Amira Tahio, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria, as well as several professors and scientists of Pulmonology and Allergies from various Egyptian universities, and associations of Chest, Allergy, Internal Medicine, and Intensive Care.
In his speech, Dr. Konsowa stressed the keenness of the Alexandria University administration to advance medical education by achieving competitive education and linking it to international educational institutions. He pointed out that Alexandria University signed the first joint scientific degree in the Middle East in the fields of medicine, surgery, and oral and dental medicine with the British University of Manchester. Konsowa announced that the soon-to-be-established “Alexandria International University” will host all the joint degrees signed by Alexandria University with international universities. He added that the university is keen to support young researchers, by providing a budget allocated for them to communicate with their colleagues in the same majors in major international universities that signed dual degrees with Alexandria University. He also pointed out that a large part of Alexandria University's mission is to extend a helping hand to treat the needy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, as the health of the low-income citizen is an important priority in building the new republic. Dr. Konsowa also thanked the role of NGOs and civil society for their great role in supporting the medical sector in university hospitals, pointing to the volume of support received by Alexandria University hospitals, which exceeded 500 million pounds. He also expressed his appreciation of the role of scientific societies within Alexandria University and their pioneering role in developing the medical sector.
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen confirmed that the Pulmonology Department at the Faculty of Medicine provides a great and remarkable activity in scientific research and scientific conferences to provide distinguished health service to citizens. He highlighted the high attendance at the conference, that is a sign of its success, and confirmed that Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa attending all scientific medical conferences, represents a message of support and encouragement from the university administration for the Faculty of Medicine and its various specializations.
While Dr. Essam Gouda confirmed that this year's conference discusses rare disease cases, whose radiographs and analyses were presented via computer and display screens, as they were commented on by a group of specialized professors. Gouda added that the conference also discussed topics of pulmonary embolism, treatment of allergies and asthma, and the use of optical endoscopes in diagnosis and treatment of various lung tumours, as well as a discussion of the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary embolism, treatment of obstructive pulmonary disease, and the use of the polysomnogram in diagnosing the disease.
Dr. Ahmed Youssef indicated that the conference also discussed the economics of treatment, how to reach diagnosis and treatment of various diseases in an economical manner and set controls and guidelines for treatment. In addition, a workshop was held to teach the basics and techniques of using bronchoscopes & thoracoscopes, under the supervision of a group of scientists and professors using the Hands-on System, that is, practical education.
Dr. Amira Tahio indicated that there is great cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the six faculties and institutes of the medical sector at Alexandria University, to provide distinguished medical services to all citizens.
