Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received a French delegation consisting of representatives of the Government of the Southern Province of France, the University of Corsica, and the Horizons Solidarités Foundation, to discuss the last details and coordination to operate the Digital Fab Lab at the Faculty of Engineering, to serve the innovators and creators among all university students.
 
 
During the meeting, Dr. Konsowa praised the cooperation with the French side, which is in line with the university's strategy to cooperate with prestigious international universities and scientific institutions. He stressed the importance of this advanced laboratory in providing an innovative educational and empirical environment for students to learn and interact with technology and creativity in the fields of design and digital industry. He added that it will also assist them in designing and manufacturing products themselves using digital and advanced industry technologies, transform their ideas into reality, discover and develop their capabilities in the field of digital design and manufacturing, and encourage their innovation and creativity.
 
 
Dr. Ziyad El-Sayyad, associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering, main researcher, and project coordinator, indicated that the Fab Lab project at the Faculty of Engineering is funded by the Government of the Southern Region in France, with the aim of cooperation in establishing an advanced laboratory for digital manufacturing and plastic recycling at the Faculty of Engineering, which is now being equipped.
 
 
The French side appreciated the existing cooperation, stressing the possibility of continuing this cooperation in the future to include other projects in the fields of heritage preservation and development, sustainability, and environmental issues.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ghada El-Khayyat, Director of the Centre for Educational Innovations and Distance Learning at the University, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Reem Abdelhamid, Professor at the Higher Institute of Public Health.

In his speech, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa welcomed the American delegation to Alexandria University, stressing that the cooperation agreement with the University of Louisville is a real success story. He indicated that today is a harvest of the fruits of this agreement that was signed in 2020, and he explained that this visit comes within the framework of the academic cooperation agreement between Alexandria University, El Alamein International University, and Louisville University, which includes the establishment of dual degree programs in biomedical engineering, computer science and computer engineering. Konsowa announced the provision of three PhD scholarships at the University of Louisville in the field of renewable energy. He stressed that it is an exceptional opportunity for members of the teaching assistants’ body at Alexandria University to complete their studies at the University of Louisville. This comes within the framework of Alexandria University's strategic plan to establish partnerships and joint degrees with major international universities, as well as discussing admission procedures for the new batch in the joint program with Alexandria University, which allows students to study for two years at Alexandria University, and then travel to the United States of America to complete the rest of the courses required to obtain the dual degree.
 
 
 
 
Moreover, the admission procedures for the new batch in the dual-degree program were also discussed between Alexandria University and the University of Louisville. The program allows students to study for two years, including a preparatory year at Alexandria University, followed by two years of studying the remaining required courses in the United States to obtain the dual degree. The collaboration in conducting joint research was agreed upon as well in the fields of biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, batteries, green hydrogen, biofuels, and other areas through the establishment of a joint research laboratory and the encouragement of cooperation among faculty members and researchers in research projects. Additionally, the joint enrollment for PhD studies was activated.

While Dr. Roshdy Zahran confirmed that the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University, the American University of Louisville, and the International University of El Alamein is the result of uniting efforts, coordination, direct cooperation, and true partnership between the three universities in order for the dream to become a reality. He pointed out that there are already six students from Alexandria University who have completed their studies at the University of Louisville.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa welcomed the guests of the meeting hosted by Alexandria University, after choosing the Faculty of Agriculture at Alexandria University as a venue to host the educational service centre for the value chain of manufactured tomatoes in Egypt. He explained that the business model is being developed at the centre after carrying out repairs and construction equipment to host the production line of the educational service centre for the tomato value chain. Dr. Konsowa stressed that Alexandria University supports all applied research and adopts a knowledge economy that supports the Egyptian economy in light of the new republic, through implementing research outputs, encouraging researchers in various disciplines, and presenting initiatives to fund their research projects that serve the industry and achieve added value to support the Egyptian economy or serve society in general.
 
 
 
 
While Dr. Amr Hazaa referred to the implementation of the project in Egypt through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and through funding by the Italian Agency for International Development Cooperation (AICS). He pointed out that this project came with the aim of supporting and developing the value chain of tomatoes in Egypt, so that it is comprehensive and sustainable by increasing its added value, enhancing the technical capabilities of youth, and providing them with employment and project opportunities. He pointed to the most important achievement of the project, which is bringing in 7 varieties of manufacturing tomatoes from an Italian company through one of its agents in Egypt, where field experiments are currently being conducted on these varieties.
 
 
 
While Dr. Mohamed Bahey El-Din confirmed that the project started 18 months ago, after Alexandria University won the opportunity to implement the project among the 6 parties that applied for it. He added that many meetings and workshops were held within the Faculty of Agriculture and some tomato production centres in Nubaria area with farmers and manufacturers, to introduce them to the project, and the specifications of the tomato fruits required for manufacturing. He referred to the directives of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, in this regard to prepare a site dedicated to the project at the Faculty of Agriculture. He added that the Italian side will supply the production line during the next few months, and said that the project aims to train students of the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as one of the outputs of the project, as well as cooperation with agricultural companies producing tomatoes, and training small producers.

Dr. Heba Salama indicated that the project aims to provide training opportunities for workers in the sector of producing and processing tomato products, in addition to discussing the establishment of a factory equipped to produce many tomato products (30 products) as a result of research carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture, Shatby, Alexandria University, where some products will be manufactured for the first time at Alexandria University.
