The Faculty of Education, Alexandria University, celebrated the graduation of the 53rd batch of its students, in the presence of Dr. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Major General Mohamed El-Sherif, Governor of Alexandria, Major General Hazem Badr, Deputy Commander of the Northern Military Region, and Dr. Mohamed Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Education, in addition to deans and vice-deans of different faculties, faculty members at Alexandria University, as well as leaders of education in Alexandria, members of the House of Representatives and Senate, clergy, and parents of students.

In his speech, Dr. Reda Hegazy stressed the necessity of continuous development of the teacher and benefiting from the many sources of knowledge to develop the educational process. He stressed that the Ministry seeks a teacher who produces information and data, not a teacher who teaches information to students, in order to create what is called “creativity producing education.” Hegazy pointed out that the President puts the Egyptian teacher at the forefront of his interests by offering a competition to appoint 30,000 teachers every year, adding that there are several specific mechanisms based on which new teachers are selected, which are the academic specialization, the educational specialization, the general knowledge of the teachers, the extent of their familiarity with technology, and their proficiency in one of the Arabic or English languages, in addition to passing the physical fitness tests. He also stressed that there will be competitions to be announced soon. At the end of his speech, Hegazy stressed that there is no development of education without improving the teacher’s performance.

While Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa congratulated the parents and thanked them for their great efforts with their children during the years of study until graduation. He also thanked everyone who participated in the educational process during the years of study at the faculty, including department heads, faculty members, their assistants, and all the faculty employees for their support, dedication, and sincerity. Konsowa stressed that the Egyptian state is currently witnessing the construction phase under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, stressing that the Egyptian teacher is the cornerstone in building the Egyptian state. He pointed out that teachers are the ones who give credit to all the leaders present today, as they have influenced the values by which we live to this day. Konsowa stressed that the value of knowledge, advising students of the importance of possessing it to build a knowledge-based economy, and calling on them to be ambassadors for their country, their university, and their faculty, wherever they are, and to strive to convey an honourable image of their alma mater.

While Major General Mohamed El-Sherif congratulated all the graduates and their families, wishing them more success, stressing the state’s keenness, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the New Republic, to provide full support and care to the Egyptian teacher. The governor stressed that the Faculty of Education is one of the most important faculties, for its role in preparing future generations who are to become doctors, engineers, and all other professions, pointing out that teaching is a lofty profession and teachers are the messengers of this nation.

Major General Hazem Badr conveyed the greetings of Major General Staff Walid Hamouda to the attendees, adding that arming yourself with knowledge is one of the pillars of the Egyptian state, wishing the students a prosperous and bright future filled with the fulfilment of hopes and aspirations as much as the graduates made great efforts during their years of study.

The celebration activities began with a parade of graduates, then the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. At the end of the celebration, the students took the oath of the graduates of the 53rd class of students from the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, a delegation from the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Sciences, headed by Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty, visited the Information and Decision Support Center of the Council of Ministers at its headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
 
 
The visit aimed to learn about the Center’s efforts as the leading Egyptian think tank in supporting decision-makers, as well as learning about the center’s objectives, its most important activities, and its plans for action during the coming period.

Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, witnessed on Monday morning the preparatory webinar for the COP28 Climate Conference, which was organized by the International Committee for the Development of Dry Lands, the Regional Action for Climate Change Foundation in Japan, the “Nizami Ganjavi” International Centre, and the African Organization for Young Leaders, at the Conference Centre of the Faculty of Medicine. The webinar was also attended by Dr. Mustafa Kamel, former Minister of Environment, Dr. Ayman Abu Hadid, former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Omar El-Areini, former President of the Montreal Protocol, in addition to several Egyptian and foreign experts, researchers, and students.

The webinar discussed many important topics, including climate change and dry lands, food security, biodiversity, energy and sustainable development, political will and human solidarity needed for change, adaptation, African youth's view of climate change, the Egyptian perspective on climate change, and funding requirements.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa stressed Alexandria University's keenness to host events related to climate change issues and reduce carbon emissions. He referred to the university's role as a house of expertise for Alexandria Governorate and the surrounding industrial community, which represents about 40% of Egyptian industries in general, and 58% of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries in Egypt. He explained that the university is working through its professors and specialized centres to shift towards the green industry, which represents the locomotive for sustainable development. He added that Alexandria University cooperates with many partners at the governmental, academic, and industrial levels with regard to issues of climate change, and recently signed a protocol with the Alexandria Governorate to establish a management system to deal with torrential rain through a 9-stage program that ends by the end of 2024, which includes the establishment of an early warning system, and implements applicable scientific research through the university’s technology incubator (Alexandria University Technology Park).

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, former Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and co-chair of the Nizami Janjavi Centre, pointed out that climate change is the biggest challenge for which solutions should be sought through increased cooperation between international bodies and national bodies in developing countries. He also stressed the importance of pairing wisdom with knowledge to face the challenges related to climate change and support for sustainable development, adding that poor countries are affected more than developed countries by the problems of climate change, lack of food resources and high prices.

Dr. Adel El-Beltagy, Chairman of the International Committee for the Development of Dry Lands, warned of possible catastrophic scenarios if carbon emissions continue at this pace, such as temperature fluctuations, ecosystem imbalances, food shortages and an increase in the population, so it was inevitable to work on reducing the negative effects and using the latest scientific and technical methods in agricultural management. He also pointed out the important role of the academic community to provide scientific research and apply it on the ground.

Based on the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and under the auspices of the Administrative Control Authority, Major General Mohamed El-Sherif, Governor of Alexandria, and Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, signed a cooperation protocol to prepare the detailed plan for the unplanned areas and urban sprawl areas in Alexandria Governorate, in order to transform those areas into a digital system using geographic information systems in accordance with the city’s urban strategic plan, taking into account the provision of all public utility needs for citizens. This protocol is carried out in cooperation with Alexandria University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and Pharos University.

The signing of the protocol was witnessed by Dr. Jacqueline Azer, Deputy Governor, Dr. Ismail Abdelghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Technology and Maritime Transport, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, President of Pharos University, as well as representatives of the Administrative Control Authority, and Dr. Saeed Allam, Acting Vice President of the University for Environmental Affairs and Community Service.

In his speech, Major General Mohamed El-Sherif welcomed the university presidents and representatives of the Administrative Control Authority at the Main Headquarters of Alexandria Governorate, praising the vital and effective role of the Administrative Control Authority in bringing together the centres of expertise from Alexandria University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, Maritime Transport, and Pharos University. He added that this protocol aims to prepare detailed plans for the unplanned and urban sprawl areas in Alexandria Governorate, to eliminate the randomness that Alexandria has suffered since 2011 and before. He also pointed out that Alexandria Governorate will be the entity entrusted with implementing the strategic plan for the city of Alexandria 2032, including the outcomes of land and urban space uses and the approval of detailed plans and urban development projects. Alexandria governor stressed the necessity of having plans for cities to limit the spread of slums and building and construction violations on agricultural lands, stressing that this protocol will have a great impact on Alexandria Governorate in the future.

While Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa stressed the necessity of circulating this protocol in the various governorates of Egypt to eliminate slums. He added that Alexandria University will prepare and study detailed plans for specific areas, and for areas that have not been identified and assign them in coordination between the governorate and the university, in addition to preparing digital files in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program for the required areas, as it is one of the most prestigious universities in Egypt and the Middle East, and for its pioneering role in providing technical and academic support in various areas of development to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
 
 

 

 

 

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Centre for Educational Innovations and Distance Learning at the University will organize on the 21st of October its fifth international conference, APITEL 2023, which will be held under the title "Developing the Learner Autonomy:
Undergraduate Research and Flipped Classrooms as Two Proposed Means".
Its work will continue for two days at the Conference Centre of the Faculty of Medicine.
 
 
Dr. Ghada El-Khayyat, Director of the Centre, indicated that the conference will include a competition for each of the faculty members supervising the research of undergraduate students, as well as the students participating in the research. Two prizes will be awarded, the first in the field of humanities and social sciences, and the second in the field of natural sciences. She added that the conference activities will include international training on artificial intelligence in education.
