Alexandria University Council of Matrouh branch during its recent headed by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdel Karim Abaza, reviewed the status of faculties regulations where a general committee was formed to study and review the regulations of various faculties in Matrouh and define the date to hand over those regulations for approval by the University Council and to be sent to the various committees of the sector.

Prof. Dr. Roshdy Zahran, head of the University of Alexandria, received on Wednesday morning, January 13, 2016 ambassador / Hossam Al Dabbas, General Consul of the State of Palestine in Alexandria in order to strengthen the existing ties of cooperation in various fields and discussed ways of activating the academic exchange opportunities.

Also the president of the university expressed during the meeting, the depth of relations between the Egyptian and Palestinian peoples and stressed that will be provided all types of care to Palestinian students and deal with their problems when needed.

Also the ambassador praised the role of the University of Alexandria and its contributions since its inception in the graduation of hundreds of Palestinian students also praised the Egyptian official and popular support for the Palestinian cause.

 

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Essam Kurdi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Hisham Gaber, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs.

Prof. Dr. Roshdy Zahran, head of the University of Alexandria, received at noon on Sunday, January 3, 2016 Bishop Bavly, General Bishop and Assistant of Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria to serve the youth of Alexandria, where he congratulated the Patriarch and all Christians brothers on the occasion of new year and Christmas holiday.

 

Dr. Zahran pointed that the university recognizes young people value and their role in the advancement of the country and seeks through organizing various activities at the faculties, whether cultural or sporting, social, technical, to deepen the affiliation values ​ and linking them to their university, and added that the university is also interested in organizing educational seminars to consolidate the ideas and moral principles such as respect other opinions and the culture of difference, etc., and added that the university has several initiatives and projects for young people to integrate them in their community issues.

In the context of activating the partnership agreements between Egyptian Universities and British Universities, Prof. Dr., Ashraf Al-Shehhi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hatem Secretary of the Supreme Council for Universities and Rectors of the universities of Alexandria, Helwan and Banha participated in the Forum of Ministers of Higher Education held in London where they signed partnership agreements with British universities in the presence of Mr. Nasser Kamel; the Egypt's Ambassador in Britain.

Dr. Rushdy Zahran ; the President of Alexandria University signed two agreements with London South Bank University and the University of Dundee for cooperation in the field of scientific research and joint programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and engineering as well as the programs of Master’s and Doctorate degrees and the exchange of faculty members and students. Another agreement of cooperation was signed between the Faculty Medicine - Alexandria University and the Faculty of Medicine - University of Liverpool.


Prof. Dr. Rushdy Zahran stated that these agreements were signed after the first meeting of the Egyptian-British Coordinating Committee as these agreements shall activate the framework convention between the two countries to cooperate in the field of higher education and scientific research which was signed during the visit of President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi to London in November 2015.

Dr Zahran added that Alexandria University prepares to hold a workshop on technical education and vocational training, in partnership with some British universities and institutions in which the Minister of Higher Education and British experts will attend during next October. The proposed workshop will be a part of the activities of the Egyptian-British year for science, technology, education and innovation during 2016.  

Prof. Dr. Seddik Abdul Salam; Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research declared that the university began the necessary measures toward its initiative to face and prevent the phenomenon of scientific plagiarism. He clarified that the basic step against this phenomenon is to identify this act and its risks through organizing a series of awareness campaigns and workshops for all concerned parties including faculty members, assisting staff and graduate students.

Dr. Seddik indicated that 90% of scientific plagiarism cases occur as a result of lack of knowledge about the governing rules and laws. He added that this pilot exercise will be a guide and can be applied in all Egyptian universities.

This came during the meeting of the Council of Graduate Studies and Research where it was decided to form a committee of experts to take the responsibility of identifying scientific plagiarism and developing the required rules and mechanisms to face this phenomenon. The committee will determine appropriate sanctions for scientific plagiarism and also develop a mandatory course curriculum for and Master’s and PhD students on scientific plagiarism.

Moreover, Dr. Mostafa Al-Nagar; the Deputy of the Faculty of Science addressed a lecture during the session of the Council on this phenomenon where he reviewed the definition of the problem and its risks and types of scientific plagiarism as well as how to discover and how to avoid it.
