Prof. Dr. Roshdy Zahran; President of Alexandria University has recently received Mr. Siraude; Head of Trustees Council of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in Thailand and Prof. Dr. Dowzwani; Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at KMITL. The two sides discussed cooperation opportunities in education and scientific research and common degrees for graduate and undergraduate levels in addition to exchanging faculty members, researchers and students.

 

Prof. Dr. Zarhran declared that Alexandria University is eager to be active at African and Mediterranean Sea level and to hold cooperation agreements with distinguished universities and institutes. He added that the university has a plan to cooperate with Far East universities including a visit to China to develop cultural exchange between Alexandria University and educational institutions in China.    

Prof. Dr. Roshdy Zahran; President of Alexandria University has recently received Dr. Fillip Loukit; the Director of International Cooperation at South Bank University. The visit came to activate cooperation agreements between the two universities that were signed during the forum of Higher Education Ministries held in London last January. The two sides discussed issues of common interest and proposed researches.

Dr. Zahran represented a brief summery on Alexandria University and its faculties and branches inside Egypt and abroad, funding donors for researches and international cooperation. Dr. Zahran stated that the university gives the priority for researches areas that comply with state current strategy and needs.

Dr. Loukit represented a brief summery on South Bank University and said that 97% of university income results from cooperation with industrial stakeholders and employing researches to serve the industry. He added that the university depends on the quality of scientific researches and its benefits on the industry. Dr. Loukit stressed on including training programs within the academic study that shall help the students to find suitable job opportunity.




Prof. Dr. Essam Khamis, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Dr. Rushdi Zahran,President of Alexandria University, opened on April 23rd , 2016 evening the event of the Seventh Environmental Forum of Alexandria University which is organized by Community Service and Environmental Development sector, under the title of “Climate Change and Sustainable Development Objectives” . Its events continue for two days to discuss the important environmental issues.

Furthermore, Dr. Rushdi Zahran asserted, in his speech, that education and scientific research are the engine of development, referring to the University keenness to organize environmental forum 10 years ago. That is to discuss current environmental issues as a commitment towards the state and society to tackle new issues, and the development of the exciting ones, coming up with workable recommendations provided to the state to achieve the objectives of sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Essam Kurdy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, pointed, in his speech, that Egypt is one of the leading countries regionally regarding the involvement in international agreements that promote the trend towards the objectives of sustainable development. Furthermore, he referred to the call of the President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to international community to support the endeavors done by Egypt on the national level in this field, adding that Egypt and the African countries fulfilled their commitments to contribute and set ambitious national plans to encounter climate change as Egypt passed a comprehensive national plan for sustainable development until the year

 

 

 

 

Dr. Sediq Abdul Salam, Alexandria University Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, stressed the importance of the establishment of new research labs to serve researchers and support scientific research. Furthermore, pointed out that the coming months will see the opening of some laboratories and research centers in the University, including a stem cell research center. This came during his meeting, held yesterday, with the Council of Graduate Studies and Research. He added that the university has allocated this year, 4 million pounds from scientific research fund to support capacity building. This includes the development of laboratories and the establishment of new one in the University, in addition to funding successful research projects within Alex Rep projects, referring to the University interest to maximize benefit from scientific research and support projects that meet the strategy of scientific research of the University and serve the Egyptian economy and development projects.

Alexandria University in cooperation with the British Council organized an introductory seminar on Newton-Mosharafa grants provided by the Egyptian and British governments for young researchers, faculty members and graduate students. The seminar was attended by Mr. Michael Houlgate; Newton-Mosharafa Program Leader in Egypt in addition to faculty members and students of the university.

 Prof. Dr. Seddik Abdul Salam, Vice-President of the University for Graduate studies and Research declared that available grants include grants for PhD (full degree - joint supervision), post-doctorate scientific missions (3 to 6 months) and grants of overseas training, as well as joint research projects and workshops in important areas that Egypt need for industry advancement and society development such as sustainable water management, renewable energy and affordable health care for all, food production, archeology and cultural heritage .
