Alexandria University Council decided at its meeting on May 29, 2016, headed by Dr. Rushdi Zahran, head of the university, the adoption to promote 20 of faculty members to the rank of professor and 12 to assistant teacher and the appointment of 21 professors and awarded 75 PhD and 223 master degrees in various academic disciplines.

 

Alexandria University Council discussed during its meeting held recently, headed by Dr. Rushdi Zahran, head of the university, the results of African Global rankings for the year 2016, where the University of Alexandria occupied the tenth place among the best 15 universities in Africa.

Alexandria University President Prof. Dr. Roshdy Zahran met a delegation from China’s Office for National Science and Technology Awards led by director Dr.Weng to discuss means of promoting cooperation in areas of common interest in preparation to sign a cooperation agreement.

Dr. Zahran affirmed the longstanding relations between Egypt and China since 60 years ago. He also stated that Alexandria University is keen to cooperate with Chinese scientific and research academic sides through forging scientific partnerships and joint programs.

He briefed the delegation on the university’s strategic plan, international partnerships and agreements.

The Chinese delegation presented the conditions of awards granted by the Center in fields of science and technology and the evaluation criteria for submitted projects. They also described the contributions that can be provided to Alexandria University for cooperation with the Chinese academic institutions.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Seddik Abdul Salam the University Vice-President forGraduateStudies and Research, Prof.Dr. Hesham Gaberthe University Vice-President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ismail Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Mokhtar Yousef Dean of Graduate Studies and Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Abdel AzizKonsowaDean of the Faculty of Engineering,Prof. Dr.Boshra Salem Director of the Office of International Relations at the university and Prof. Dr. Magdy Abdel Azim theDeputy of the Faculty of Engineering.

In the context of opening horizons for cooperation and development in scientific and cultural exchanges between Alexandria University and educational institutions of China, Prof. Dr. Essam El Kurdi, Vice President of Alexandria University traveled to China where he visited several universities and discussed with university leaderships ways to establish relationships and joint cooperation in academic fields and exchanging faculty members and students to educate Arabic language for Chinese students in TAFL Center (Teaching Arabic as Foreign Language) of the Faculty of Arts, as well as educating Chinese language for students of Alexandria University. Dr. Kurdi discussed with Chinese universities financial resources for joint education projects and translation of Arabic and Chinese reference books. Dr. Kurdi will deliver a public lecture entitled "Alexandria University and Silk Road" for students studying Arabic in those universities.

 

 

A delegation from Alexandria University headed by Prof. Dr. Essam El Kurdi, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environment Development is currently visiting China. The delegation visited the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University to discuss ways of cooperation between the two sides especially in the new program of the Arab language. The delegation visited the central library of Jiao Tong University where Prof. Dr. Essam El Kurdi delivered a lecture on the Alexandria University, Silk Road and cooperation with China. The lecture was attended by more than 100 Chinese student studying Arabic language in this university which is the largest university in China in terms of the number of students studying Arabic language with 600 students.

Prof. Dr. Ghada Mousa Deputy of the Faculty of Arts talked about the Faculty of Arts and its mission, educational and research objectives, vision and its role in community service.

 

Prof. Dr. Lanna Habib, the Director of TAFL Center (Teaching Arabic as Foreign Language) in the Faculty of Arts provided an overview of the Center and its educational and cultural role foreign students of from all the world.
