As a response to an invitation from the Francophone International Organization,  Dr. Roshdy Zahran, the President of Alexandria University participated in the second meeting of francophone ministers of higher education on behalf of Dr. Ashraf Alshehy, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The meeting was held on 17th of June, 2016 in Bamako, Mali. The meeting was revolved around “Digital Technology Development initiative in Francophone universities”. In the beginning of meeting the president of Mali Ibrahim Bobakar welcomed all attendants. The meeting was attended by Mali Minster of Higher Education, Secretary-General of Francophone International Organization, ministers, representatives and ambassadors of foreign countries. The president of Mali stressed on the importance of remote education and digital education and called to make use of information technology systems in higher education and cooperation between Francophone countries through joint scientific certificates by electronic education and mutual recognition of conferred certificates.

Dr. Zahran declared that the meeting included the inauguration of the pilot phase of the electronic portal established by the Francophone Academic Agency in presence of the Secretary-General and participation of 23 minister of higher education representing 23 countries. He added that the organization has been implementing the portal since a year as it was mandated by the first meeting of higher education ministers held in June 2015.

The electronic portal will be a mutual destination for open education resources and training programs on the internet. Dr. Zahran noted that an implementation plan was set for full operation within four years and the participants decided to provide all capabilities for the success of the portal.

 

It is worth to mention that the third meeting will be held in June 2017 in Morocco.

Dr. Essam ElKurdi, Alexandria University Vice President, visited the Egyptian embassy in the Chinese capital Beijing, where he met the Egyptian Ambassador, Dr. Magdy Amer and Dr. Hussein Ibrahim, the  Egyptian cultural advisor in China. A dialogue was made between the two sides about the opportunities for cooperation between the University of Alexandria, and the Chinese universities, government and provinces in terms of scholarships of undergraduate and graduate studies and conduct joint researches.

 

From his side, the Ambassador stressed on the development of Chinese-Egyptian relations, which is experiencing significant progress in the current period and pointed to the need for special investment of the available opportunities in the field of academic cooperation.

President of the International Studies University in Zhejiang, China, received Prof. Dr. Essam ElKurdy, vice president of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and his delegation in the administration building in in Hangzhou.

 

 

During the meeting, they discussed ways of cooperation between the two universities through the exchange of staff members and graduate students, and participation in conferences and seminars to learn about the features of the Egyptian and Chinese cultures. The university president in China expressed his desire to send graduate students to study Arabic at the Faculty of Arts and Specialized Studies at the University of Alexandria, and also he expressed his desire to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two universities. Furthermore, Prof. Essam Kurdish delivered an introductory lecture for Alexandria University and its faculties and the Centre for Arabic Language in Faculty of Arts. Then Dr. Kurdy and his accompanying delegation moved to the Chinese capital of Beijing to open up new prospects for cooperation in the fields of scientific and cultural exchanges between the University of Alexandria and the Chinese educational institutions.

 

Alexandria University Council confirmed during its meeting held on Sunday, May 29, 2016 under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Rushdi Zahran, head of the university, the completion of the Control Unit and the declaration of results of mid-year examinations during the second half of next July with the disapproval of the travel or vacations for university staff and teaching staff during the examination periods. 

 

 

Alexandria University Council decided at its meeting held recently, headed by Dr. Rushdi Zahran, head of the university, to grant a scholarship from the university to African students for graduate programs in various academic disciplines at the University of Alexandria, where the university will bear the cost of the study of Arabic language program for those student.
