Alexandria University Council during its session on Tuesday, 27 December 2016 headed by the Rector Dr. Essam El Kurdi, approved the nominations of university faculties and institutes for the State Awards 2017 granted by the Supreme Council of Culture as follows:

* For the Nile Prize: Prof. Dr. Abdel Salam Eid, the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Fine Arts has been nominated (in arts) and Prof. Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Saad the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Law has been nominated (in social sciences).

* For State – Merit Prizes Prof. Dr. Mohamed Fouad Taj the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Fine Arts has been the nominated (in arts) and Prof. Dr. Shebl Badran the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Education has been nominated (in social sciences).

* For State – Excellence Prizes, Dr. Said Badr the Assistant Professor at Faculty of Fine Arts has been the nominated (in arts) and Prof. Dr. Magdy Agamia the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Arts has been nominated (in literatures) while Prof. Dr. Abdel Wahab Gaafar the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Arts has been nominated (in social sciences).

First:- Nile Prizes (in advanced technological sciences): Prof. Dr. Said Ismail El Khami has been nominated.

Secondly: - State – Merit Prizes: Prof. Dr. Esmat Hussein Hegazy the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Agriculture has been the nominated (in agricultural sciences) and Prof. Dr. Morsi Abu Saaud El Suda the Professor Emeritus at Faculty of Agriculture has been nominated (in advanced technological sciences that serve agricultural fields).

 

Alexandria University Council during its session held on Tuesday, 27 December 2016, headed by Dr. Essam El Kurdi President of the university in the presence of Dr. Reda Farahat, the governor of Alexandria, approved a decree to renew the appointment of Mr. Alaa Eldin Kamal Thabet, the journalist and editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Al- massai newspaper as a member from outside the Council of Higher Studies and Research for two years.

Dr. Essam El Kurdi, President of Alexandria University stressed the deans to follow up the activities of first semester exams and to set urgent solutions for any emergency case that threatens the exams process. He also called to take all necessary actions to provide comfort to the students during their examinations and to secure the examinations. He also stressed on the attendance of faculty members and assistance staff and in all faculties during the period of the examinations.

 

The Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science organized a symposium on the Palestinian problem and its implications for the Egyptian national security. A lecture was delivered by the ambassador Mohammed Orabi the former Egyptian minister of Foreign Affair. Mr. Orabi is currently President of the foreign affairs committee in the House of Representative. The symposium was attended by Dr. Kadri Ismail Dean of the faculty, Dr. Mamdouh Mansour, Head of the Political Science Department, Dr. Ali Abdel Wahab, Faculty deputy for Education and Students Affairs and a group of faculty members and students.
