 Prof. Dr. Essam El-Kurdi, President of Alexandria University declared that the university is preparing a future vision of the university hospitals through the Medical Council of the university to achieve integration in the medical system and coordination between all concerned bodies in the medical sector and improving the service and health care of patient. He indicated that university hospitals provide 80% of the health service in Alexandria governorate and by-side governorates. This came in a meeting with the Faculty Council of Pharmacy to discuss the development of study programs and curricula and the possibility of establishing new programs. The meeting was attended by Dr. Hisham Gaber, vice-president of AU for Education and Student Affairs and Dr. Ivan Ibrahim the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The Rector listened to opinions and suggestions of the faculty members on how to develop the education and research in the faculty and to support the faculty role in medicine industry in Egypt. He added that the university is currently formulating a plan to install study rooms and auditoriums on university land in Smouha with a capacity up to 3000 students that can be used for all university faculties in order to reduce the density and in the light of considering 2017 as the development year for curricula in AU.

Dr. El-Kurdi also opened the medicine preparation laboratory which is designed to test the biological activity of some chemical compounds by computer prior to being engineered in the lab. The new laboratory is equipped with 25 computers to serve undergraduates in addition to three computers for postgraduate students. The Rector accompanied by vice-president of the university dean of the faculty visited the scientific complex of pharmaceutical research and research labs.

 

DR. Essam El-Kurdi the President of Alexandria University opened the latest center for Apoplexy treatment in El Hadra University Hospital on 10 January 2017. The center is equipped with 11 beds and total cost of 2 million EGP. The center was funded by own efforts and civil society contributions.

The new center is equipped at high level to serve the patients for nominal fee.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Hisham Gaber the AU Vice-President, Dr. Mohamed Nasr Eldin Domir the former Rector, Dr. Ahmed Othman the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Maha Adel the Dean of the Faculty of Nursery, Dr. Mohamed Hegazy the Deputy of the Ministry of Health and the Major Dr. Mohamed Abdullah deputy of the North Military sector for health services.

The inauguration ceremony began with standing and observing a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of Egypt martyrs of military forces and police men.  

 

Dr. Essam El-Kurdi President of Alexandria University has recently received Dr. Ahmed El-Gohary President of the Egyptian Japanese University of Science and Technology [E-JUST] and the Vice-President Dr. Masaky Suzuki to discuss cooperation between the two sides.

Dr. El-Kurdi emphasized the cooperation with E-JUST in Borg El Arab. He stated that AU will include new a number of new study programs within curriculums and develop other programs in modern disciplines required in the labor market. He pointed to the importance of cooperation between the two sides and making use of their available possibilities.

Dr. Ahmed El-Gohary also declared that the study at E-JUST at undergraduate level will start in September in 8 disciplines of the Faculty of Engineering and he declared that the university had 12 partners as universities and institutions in Japan. He added that the infrastructure of the university was completed where 13 buildings were built including academic, administrative, halls, research centers and service buildings.

Under the umbrella of supporting and deepen relations between Alexandria University and African universities, Dr. Essam El-Kurdi the President of Alexandria University received the ambassador of Tanzania in Cairo Mr. Mohamed Hag Hamza on Monday 2nd of January 2017 in order to discuss university cooperation and providing medical and experts especially in Oncology, Ophthalmology and Gynecology in addition to signing cooperation agreement with the big five Tanzanian universities.

Dr. El-Kurdi underlined the possibility of preparing training programs between the two sides to include other fields such as agriculture, veterinary medicine and engineering areas as well as sending faculty members to the Tanzanian universities and receiving students in Alexandria University to study in specialized programs like Natural Gas and Petrochemicals program at Faculty of Engineering program and Geology science program at Faculty of Science.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Othman Dean of the Faculty of Medicine declared that the faculty is ready to communicate with the Tanzanian universities and provide consultancy and training programs via video conference and Pan-Africa network.

Prof. Dr. Saber Wahib, Head of Pediatric Surgery Department in El-Shatby Hospital announced about a medical convey in Pediatric Surgery to Tanzania during July and August 2017.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Hisham Gaber, the Vice-President of AU for Education and Student Affairs and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Rahab, the Coordinator of African Relations in the university.

Alexandria University Council during its session on Tuesday, 27 December 2016, headed by the Rector Prof. Dr. Essam El Kurdi approed the promotion of 19 member of the teaching staff; 8 to Professor Degree and 11 to the degree of assistant professor. The Council also adopted the appointment of 18 Lecturers and conferred 67 PhD and 119 master degrees in various scientific disciplines. The session was attended by Alexandria Governor Mr. Reda Farhat
