During the Postgraduate Studies and Research Council held yesterday, Tuesday the 22nd of November 2022, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour announced the preparation of a marketing plan for the services provided by the Central Library and the Alexandria University Collections Museum, to introduce students and researchers to the scientific services provided by the Central Library at Alexandria University, and the scientific treasures located in the Alexandria University Museum.

* Dr. El-Ghandour indicated that the central library contains a hall for theoretical treatises, the electronic services unit, the electronic theses department, the digitization department, manuscripts and heritage books, and added that the Alexandria University Collections Museum contains a hall for Alexandria University, a map for the establishment of the University of Alexandria in El-Hadra area in 1912, and a collection of maps and atlases of Alexandria, Egypt, and the world. The museum also contains special display units for the huge foreign publication in French about Egypt: L’Egypte by Fred Boisonnass, dedicated to King Fuad, and there are only limited copies of it. It also contains the first edition of the French Expedition’s Description of Egypt (1809) written by the French campaign’s savants, including volumes of paintings and photographs. In addition, the museum has a special hall for the city of Alexandria that includes photo albums from the year 1881, an encyclopaedia of Alexandria and Egypt in handwriting, and some paintings and pictures of Alexandria.

* The museum also has a special section on the Ottoman Empire, that includes huge volumes depicting scenes from life in the Ottoman era, a group of Ottoman firmans, albums, Ottoman decorated manuscripts, a group of Shahani firmans issued to the rulers and khedives of Egypt from 1597 AD to 1904 AD, which were collected by order of King Fuad I, and a group of glass frames of manuscripts of various subjects and languages written on parchment. Another part of the museum is the personalities corner that contains a collection of belongings from important historical personalities. The religious manuscripts section in the museum contains rare copies of the Quran, the oldest of which dates to the 9th Century of Hijra. It also contains manuscripts in the branches of the Islamic doctrine (interpretation, jurisprudence, hadiths, and prophetic biography). Hall 3 contains a variety of heritage books and early publications in history and geography, as well as maps and albums of various fields, some of which were distributed inside the display units in the hall, while others are in storage units to be used by the readers.
• Dr. El-Ghandour also announced that the process of receiving scientific research will be transferred from the International Scientific Publishing Office at the Faculty of Science in Muharram Bey to the Library Affairs Department building on Horreya Road, in order to facilitate the procedure for researchers at Alexandria University.
• The Council approved the framework agreement for international university cooperation between the University of Alexandria and the University of Caen-Normandy in France.
 
 
• The Council also approved a proposal for cooperation between Alexandria University (Faculty of Commerce - Department of Business Administration) and J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, USA.

The Community Service and Environmental Development Council headed by Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University, reviewed during its periodic meeting the reports submitted by several faculties as follows:
 
• The report submitted by Dr. Walid Abdel-Azim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, on the university's efforts to confront the issue of climate change, as the report indicated that the university held several workshops and conferences within its faculties to study and apply all the findings of practical studies in this regard. He also highlighted the main projects in which the University of Alexandria participated as part of its role in community service, such as the Toshka project, the purification of freshwater canals, the Decent Life Initiative (Haya Karima), the Mahmoudia Road project, Bahsayer El Kheir housing Project, integrated medical community convoys, wastewater treatment, and the rain management strategy project, through the Engineering Centre at the Faculty of Engineering. He explained the achievements of these projects in terms of urban development, service to society and the environment, and energy improvement. He also reviewed the most important research projects in which the university participated, their outputs, patents, and applied research.
 
 
• The report submitted by Dr. Mohab Abdel Razek, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education for Men, on the exhibition of traditional and handicraft products, which was organized by the faculty for the second year in a row, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, with the participation of 200 exhibitors from working families.
 
 
• The report submitted by the Faculty of Agriculture on holding the Summer Science Club for school and university students, and the symposium organized by the Egyptian Society of Poultry Science entitled "The Impact of Climate Change on the Poultry Industry".
 
 
• The Council was informed of the participation of the Faculty of Dentistry in several community medical convoys in the villages of Abis, Kafr El Dawar, Old El Alamein, Shabab El Alamein, King Mariout, Baghoush Camp in Matrouh, Borg El Arab among others.
 
 
• The Council also received thanks extended by the General Authority for Adult Education for Alexandria University's contribution to teaching reading and writing to 2037 illiterate citizens, during the July 2022 session. The Vice President of the University called for intensifying efforts in this regard in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, Egypt's Vision 2030.
 
 
• The Council approved a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, and the Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science, Benghazi University.
 
 
• The Council approved the cooperation protocol between the Higher Institute of Public Health and the Healthy Hearts Association.
 
 
• The Council approved the final technical report of the research project submitted by Dr. Mohamed Belal, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education for Men, entitled "Entrepreneurship Club, Alexandria University" to spread the culture of entrepreneurship among university students and graduates and develop their innovative thinking.
 
 
• The Council approved the research project submitted by Dr. Yousra Ahmed Sultan, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, entitled "The ability of biochar made from rice and bagasse to digest nutrients and greenhouse gas emissions from the dung of milking animals."

On Monday the 21st of November 2022, the Education and Student Affairs Council, chaired by Dr. Wael Nabil Abdelsalam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, discussed the course of the first semester midterm exams, and the faculties’ preparations to hold the final exams of the first semester for the academic year 2023 / 2022, that begin in early January 2023, according to the time map specified by the Supreme Council of Universities.
 
Dr. Nabil confirmed that the classes timetable will not change in all faculties during the period of the midterm exams, and the lectures are conducted regularly according to the timetables and what was determined in the study map at the beginning of the academic year. He also confirmed the success of the student exchange experience between Alexandria University and Ain Shams University, indicating that the university is in the process of signing a cooperation agreement with Aswan University and Luxor University for student exchange.
 
• The council also reviewed the details of the plan of student activities that have been implemented since the beginning of the year, and the university's preparations to organize student union elections, starting next Thursday.
• The Council honoured Dr. Nagda Ibrahim Madi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education for Education and Student Affairs, for the end of her tenure as Vice Dean of the Faculty, wishing her success.

Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the activities of the second international conference organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University, and the accompanying exhibition, will commence next Wednesday morning, the 23rd of November, and will last for two days.

Dr. Mervat Qassem, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and President of the Conference, said that this year's conference adopts "Egypt's Vision for Health Care 2030". The Egyptian Medicine Authority and more than 21 Arab and foreign countries are participating in this year’s edition of the conference, and it hosts nearly 60 scholars of pharmaceutical and medical sciences from various Egyptian and international universities, and more than 1,000 participants from Egypt and around the world. In addition, 20 medical institutions and Egyptian and international companies in the field of manufacturing and marketing medicine, devices, equipment, and public pharmacies will participate in the conference, which is considered one of the largest international conferences for pharmaceutical and health sciences held in Egypt and the Middle East.

The Dean added that the conference will also organize 18 sessions that include 53 scientific lectures, dialogues, and workshops, to be delivered by 21 scientists from international universities and 32 Egyptian scientists, and it also includes an exhibition of 118 research posters to get acquainted with the latest findings in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, therapeutics and pharmacoeconomics.
