Alexandria Governor Dr. Mohamed Sultan, Alexandria University President Dr. Essam El-Kurdy and Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar the President of Arab Academy for Science and Technology opened the international workshop on Smart Sustainable Cities. The workshop was held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 and organized by Alexandria University in collaboration with the AAS, University of Alabama and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Dr. Essam El-Kurdy stated that the importance of Smart Sustainable Cities is growing while Egypt will establish several new smart cities as well as improve the quality of life and services in the existing cities. AU president added that this workshop is an important step toward strengthening relations with the University of Alabama in addition to cooperation in various disciplines to establishPhD programs in fields of biomedicine and civil engineering.

Dr. Kurdy pointed out the university keenness to increase cooperation with international universities and research institutions to fund scientific research in the framework of achieving excellence of Alexandria University and community service.

Dr. Mohammed Sultan said that Alexandria city faces many challenges, such as infrastructure, health and education, but its scientists and researchers can meet those challenges.

Dr. Fouad Helmi, the Professor at the University of Alabama- USA said that the workshop aims at experiences and ideas exchange to find solutions for the problems facing old cities such as congestion. He added that civil engineering couldcreate better cities with the fundamentals that make the city smart with livable buildings and expanded green areas. He also said that the city of Alexandria is a center of knowledge in the areas of science and medicine, architecture, geography, as well as it hashistoric buildings and palaces.

Dr. Nasser Darwish the scientific coordinator and professor at Faculty of Engineering said that the workshop discussed over three days the impact of smart and sustainablecities on citizen life and health and the quality of human life socially andeconomically.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Rushdy zahran, the former President of AU, faculty deans and representatives fromconcerned ministries, agencies companies.

Alexandria University Council headed by the University President Dr. Essam El-Kurdy during its last session approved the proposal of accepting 21,424 students in the coming academic year (2017-2018). The university accepts the students who have obtained general secondary certificate or equivalent. The council also approved accepting 646 students in university faculties in Matrouh branch.

The Council discussed faculties' preparations for exams and emphasized taking all necessary precautions for the exams.

 

Alexandria University president Dr. Essam El-Kurdy received Mr. Harry Hienze the Regional Director of the English education program HEEAP under the project of HOPES funded by the EU. The meeting was held on Thursday 4 May 2017 where the two sides signed cooperation agreements to implement English courses and training courses on study skills in AU starting from coming year 2017/2018. The agreed plan targets Syrian students to improve their English language and develop their skills to be qualified for grants and scholarships so that they can rebuild their country Syria.

The agreement signing was attended by Dr. Nancy Fanous the Education Consultant of HOPES program in Egypt, Dr. Nehad Mansour the Manager of Language Studies Institute in the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Naglaa Abu Agag, Dr Ibrahim El Faham and Dr. Mohamed Faouzy.  

Alexandria University President Dr. Essam El-Kurdy and Dr. Tarek Altabily, the Executive Manager of MKCL Company signed cooperation agreement between the Community Service Center in the university and the company to develop computer technology skills and skills.

MKCL is an international company that provides digital services and solutions in the educational field and online training.

Dr. Kurdi declared that according to the agreement the program MICIT will be applied for information technology training and digital literacy in two language English and Arabic. The program will be applied in the Community Service Center at nominal fees. This program will be available for students, researchers and others to get the international MICIT certificate. He added that the university will provide the training program to the first 20 studiers for free. The agreement was signed in attendance of Ibrahim Alfahaam, the Manager of Community Service Center and Mgdy Abdel Sattar the GM of MKCL company.   

On 3rd of May 2017, Dr. Essam El-Kurdy the President of Alexandria University received Dr. Ibrahim Aldarsy the Libyan cultural attachés in Alexandria to discuss the cooperation facilities between Alexandria University and Libyan universities in medical and agricultural fields. They also discussed taking advantage of Alexandria University experts and its professors through scientific visits and training courses for Libyan society development.  The Libyan cultural attachés thanked AU rector on the effective cooperation and effort to take care of Libyan students who are studying in Alexandria University.
