The annual conference of Hematology and Immunology
Alexandria University Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Dr. Mokhtar Yousef opened the 3rd International Conference of Hematology and Immunology. The conference was organized by the Egyptian Society of Hematology and Transplantation on Thursday 12/4/2018.
In his opening speech, Dr. Mokhtar Youssef stressed the leadership of Alexandria University in establishing the Medical Council to enhance the efforts in the field of health care, scientific research and medical education. He added that the university has established the Blood Diseases Unit in 2010 with 55 beds and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in 2014 in collaboration with Dr. Hossam Kamel, the former president of Cairo University and his scientific team. He also said that about 100 surgical operation were performed for bone marrow transplantation with a success percent of up to 90% in line with the world average.
Dr. Mokhtar pointed out that Alexandria University has 4,500 beds serving 4 governorates (Alexandria, El-Beheira, Matrouh and Kafr El-Sheikh) with a population of than 15 million. He added that 55,000 surgical operations were performed and about 1 million cases were treated in outpatient clinics in 2017.
Dr. Manal El-Sarady, Head of the Transplantation Unit and Secretary General of the Conference, said that the conference includes lectures on the new in diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases and bone marrow transplant where professors and scientists from Spain, Italy and Denmark in addition to Egyptian professors will participate. The conference will also present and discuss some difficult clinical cases. Dr. Manal added that workshops will be held to train young doctors on bone marrow transplantation under supervision of professors and experts to transfer the experience and prepare new generation in this important medical specialization.
The conference was chaired by Dr. Ashraf Ghandour; the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and attended by Dr. Hussein Khaled; former Minister of Higher Education Dr. Hossam Kamel; former president of Cairo University, Dr. Nabil El Halawani; the President of the Society of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation and Dr. Rafiq Khalil Chief of Physicians Syndicate in Alexandria.
Marathon in Alexandria University
On Friday 13/4/2018, Alexandria University Vice-President Dr. Hisham Gaber launched the marathon "We will build by our hands". The marathon started from AU administration building to Qaitbay citadel under auspices of AU president Dr. Essam El Kurdi. The event included musical ceremony and ended by awards for the first three places in the marathon and appreciation statements for the places from 4th to 10th.
Ambassador of India visits Alexandria University
Dr. Essam El Kurdy, the President of Alexandria received the Ambassador of India in Egypt Mr. Sangai Patateshria. The parties discussed ways of enhancing cooperation between Alexandria University and Indian universities especially information technology and to make use of Pan Africa Network hosted by Alexandria University and servicing 38 African countries in remote education, training and medical consultancy fields.
Dr. El Kurdy stressed on the deep historical relationships between Egypt and India, and welcomed the Indian students to study in AU. The Rector appreciated the proposal of creating a program to study Indian languages in the Faculty of Arts. He also added that in the frame of economic and investment relationships between the two countries we must pay attention to Indian language for more cooperation.
AU Vice President for Education and Students Affairs Dr. Hisham Gaber emphasized the university concern to keep up with technological developments and indicated that the university started to spread the e-book application in several faculties. He pointed out the possibility of cooperation to provide competency programs in information technology.
The Indian Ambassador highlighted the chances of cooperation to organize mutual visits for students from the two sides and establishing laboratories for English language and information technology that shall enhance the scientific and cultural exchange between the two countries.
The Indian Ambassador accompanied AU President in a visit to the Faculty of Arts to attend the activities of the Indian Cultural Day and they held a meeting with university students to talk about scholarships and study opportunities in the Indian universities.
Announcment for Nile Basin scholarships

Alexandria University is announcing Master& Doctoral degree scholarships for students from the Nile Basin Countries to study in Alexandria University starting the fall semester of 2018/2019 on a competitive basis. The scholarship includes waving of tuition fees only for the duration of study (maximum 3 years for master degree and 5 years for doctoral degree).

Preference will be for students with B.Sc. with accumulated grade point average of “B” (65-74%) or above or hold a higher degree in area of his/her specialty or related areas. Fluency in the language of study (Arabic or English) is a must.
Applicant from non speaking Arabic and English countries should submit a certificate of fluency in either Arabic or English language.
Alexandria University receives on of its graduates Dr. Anwar Soliman
Within the framework of Alexandria University concern to enhance communication between the university and its distinguished graduates abroad, Dr. Essam El Kurdi the university president received Dr. Anwar Soliman the Chairman of Windtronix Energy Company in USA. Dr. Soliman was graduated from the Faculty of Commerce in Alexandria University in 1958 and obtained PhD degree from New York University. The meeting was attended by Dr. Seddik Abdel Salam the Secretary of the Supreme Council of Private Universities and Head of AU Graduate League, and Dr. Nehal Habashy the Director of Clinical Researches Center.
During the meeting, Dr. Kurdi and Dr. Anwar discussed cooperation between the university and its alumni abroad. It was also agreed to hold a conference for AU alumni in the last week of July 2018. Dr. Soliman also visited the Faculty of Commerce where he met the Dean Dr. Sayed El Siefy and they agreed to organize meeting with the students during the next visit to present Dr. Soliman scientific and practical experiment through the years.
