Dr. El-Ghandour in Opening Session of International Conference of Higher Institute of Public Health "Telehealth": Telemedicine has become a necessity at the present time to provide medical services to citizens
Dr. Ashraf Al-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research, inaugurated on Sunday the 27th of November the activities of the tenth international conference, organized by the Higher Institute of Public Health in cooperation with the World Health Organization (Eastern Mediterranean Office) and Save the Children of the United Nations, under the auspices of their excellencies Professors Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University.
The Conference held under the title “Telehealth” will last for two days, in the presence of Dr. Heba El-Qadi, Dean of the Higher Institute of Public Health, Dr. Engy Mohamed El-Ghitani, Vice-Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Nisreen El-Nemr, Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, Dr. Naima Al-Qaseer, Representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Jarallah, President of the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences and former Kuwaiti Minister of Health, Dr. Amira Tahio, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria, engineer Hoda Dahroug, representative of the Ministry of Communication Technology and information technology, and a group of experts and those interested in public health from the Arab world, Africa, Europe and America, and faculty professors in Egyptian universities.

In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that the conference is hosting health experts from around the world, hoping that it will come out with recommendations that contribute to improving the public health of all citizens. El-Ghandour stressed the importance of telemedicine in providing medical advice to patients remotely, especially citizens living in remote areas. He added that the COVID-19 pandemic was a main incentive to develop digital transformation in the health sector and help patients by using telemedicine in various hospitals in the world. He also stressed that the use of smart devices and artificial intelligence has become necessary in the medical sector to raise the level of health care to very advanced stages.

While Dr. Heba El-Qadi confirmed that the conference in its current session adopts an important topic, which is "telehealth", and new visions of public health in the third millennium are presented during its sessions. The conference also addresses many aspects of the concept of telehealth, its present and future, its role in emergency situations, its advantages and disadvantages, its structure, and its role in scientific research. Dr. El-Qadi indicated that the first session of the conference is titled "Health Perception from a Distance", during which the keynote speaker will be Dr. Hisham Kouzou, Professor of Hearing and Balance Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University, member of the Digital Transformation Committee of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, the academic supervisor of electronic health programs and a member of the Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine. Also participating in the other sessions are Dr. Engy Mohamed El-Ghitani, Professor in the Tropical Medicine Department at the Higher Institute of Public Health at Alexandria University, and Dr. Nisreen El-Nimr, Professor of Epidemiology at the Institute of Public Health.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Jarallah indicated that academic studies have proven the importance of e-health, especially after the spread of COVID-19, confirming that it is not possible to achieve a bright future for public health without achieving progress in digital health and the Internet. Al-Jarallah appealed to governments and medical institutions to support and develop digital health programs and artificial intelligence, in order to catch up with progress in the medical field.
Dr. Amira Tahio thanked the organizing committee of the conference for giving young doctors at the Ministry of Health the opportunity to present research papers for the first time at this international conference. She indicated that the Ministry of Health hopes for more cooperation with Alexandria University to train doctors, present research papers and contribute to development and community service.
Engineer Hoda Dahroug confirmed that telemedicine is a presidential initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, pointing out that information and communication technology contributed to improving public health after the spread of COVID-19, and confirmed that this service is now available in remote villages and governorates.
Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour Attends Silver Jubilee Celebration of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department at Alexandria University
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, inaugurated the celebration of the silver jubilee of the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at Alexandria University, which lasted for two days at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

In his speech, Dr. El-Ghandour stressed that there is a new boom in the treatment of tumours with the latest radiation therapeutic techniques and new immuno-targeted therapies, adding that the aim of the conference is to introduce modern methods of treatment of tumours, which contributes to providing therapeutic and medical services to oncology patients. He added that there is a huge leap and comprehensive change in the treatment of tumours in the Arab and African region, especially with the rapid development of surgical methods and the introduction of highly complex and highly accurate radiological devices in targeting and eliminating malignant tumours.

While Dr. Yousry Rostom, Head of the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, confirmed that the celebration witnessed the holding of 36 scientific sessions, training courses for young doctors, and workshops in radiotherapy, as well as training on all the various modern methods of treating tumours with the latest radiation therapeutic techniques and treatments. He highlighted the specialized seminars held during the celebration in the field of clinical pharmacy and nursing services for oncology patients, and training workshops for young doctors, physicists, technicians, and pharmacists to acquire and exchange experiences with their peers in Egypt and the world.
The delegation of the American Society for Radiotherapy participated in the celebration, accompanied by Dr. Tamer Refaat, Head of the Radiotherapy Department at Loyola University in Chicago, in addition to specialized professors from the USA, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, England, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Sudan, as well as Egyptian experts from various Egyptian universities, and a large group of oncology specialists in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.

Unit for Combating Violence against Women at Alexandria University Organizes Award Ceremony for “16 Arts” Competition
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Unit for Combating Violence against Women at the University organized on Friday, the 25th of November, the award ceremony of the 16 Arts Competition in the Grand Conference Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, as part of the unit’s participation in the global campaign (The 16-day Campaign Against Violence) which starts on November 25th and ends on December 10th.

Dr. Manal Fouda, Executive Director of the Unit, stated that this competition comes to encourage students to express their rejection of all forms of violence in an interactive manner, that resulted in a large number of creative participations from university students, explaining that the competition was held over a month in all Faculties and institutes of the university, during which students presented many artistic works, which included drawing, photography, creative writing, theatrical performance, musical composition and other arts.
At the end of the ceremony, the 16 winners at the university level were announced, and a financial prize of 1,000 pounds was presented to each of them. All students participating in the competition were honoured and presented with certificates of appreciation and in-kind prizes.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Baheya El Ekhriti, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Dr. Magda El-Shazly, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women, in addition to a group of vice deans of different faculties, and the coordinators of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women from among the faculty members at the university.


For the First Time.. Faculty of Science, Alexandria University Awards Doctor of Science Degree in Mathematics
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received on Thursday the 24th of November , Dr. Alaa Abdelwahed Abdelbary, Vice President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and Dr. Hamdy Mahmoud Mohamed Youssef, Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University, where he congratulated them on obtaining the degree of "Doctor of Science in Mathematics (DSC)" from the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, which is the highest academic degree and is awarded for the candidate's overall scientific work during his scientific career.
Dr. Amani Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Science, explained that the candidate for this degree must present innovative research, being a distinguished scholar and has modern scientific trends in his field of specialization. She pointed out that the arbitration of the candidate is done through 3 arbitrators who hold a fellowship from the British Royal Society And from prestigious European universities, and indicated that the college had previously awarded a Doctor of Science degree in the field of chemistry, but it was the first time that this degree was awarded in the field of mathematics.


President of Alexandria University and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education Inaugurate the second international conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy PHS 2022
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Dr. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated Wednesday evening the second international conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy PHS 2022, which will last for two days.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa confirmed that Alexandria University is keen to support the university's scientific research system, as a fundamental pillar in the shift towards a knowledge economy, explaining that the university has launched several initiatives to encourage researchers to increase their output of applied scientific research, and the university is also establishing a technology park to link these outputs with industry and transfer the research results into products of economic value, in order to achieve the Egyptian state’s vision of sustainable development in accordance with the 2030 strategy. The university president announced the start of several projects during the coming period under the umbrella of Alexandria University to serve society and industry extensively. He also thanked the administration of the Faculty of Pharmacy for its efforts in publishing and supporting scientific research.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the role of the ministry in providing an encouraging environment for innovation within Egypt’s Vision 2030, explaining that the Science, Technology and Innovation Incentives Law contributed to supporting scientific research in Egypt. He praised the role of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Alexandria University in achieving a huge leap in the field of scientific research during the past four years, as the number of published researches reached more than 10 thousand, appreciating their quality, as the percentage of scientific citations reached 45% higher than the global average, the percentage of scientific publication reached 78% published in Q1, Q2, and the percentage of research in the medical and pharmaceutical sector 55%. He urged the researchers participating in the conference to discuss research projects that support the economy and the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Mervat Qassem, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, said that the conference is one of the largest international conferences for pharmaceutical and health sciences held in Egypt, with the participation of the Egyptian Medicines Authority and major companies in the pharmaceutical industry and medical supplies. In addition, more than 1,000 participants and researchers from Egypt and 21 Arab and foreign countries are participating in its current version, as well as a number of pharmaceutical and medical supplies companies. During the conference, 18 sessions will be held, including 53 scientific lectures, dialogues and workshops, and 118 research posters to discuss all that is new in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy and drug economics, and an exhibition for the participating companies and agencies.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, President of Pharos University, Dr. Mohamed Onsi, President of the Syndicate of Pharmacists, deans and vice deans of the faculties, and the participating Arab and foreign delegations. The opening ceremony also included honouring a number of pioneers and professors of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University.
