Alexandria University Receives French Nice Côte d'Azur Municipality Delegation to Discuss Cooperation

Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, a delegation of the French municipality of Nice Côte d'Azur, to discuss cooperation mechanisms in the various scientific and academic fields of common interest.

The delegation included Mrs. Agnes Rampal, Deputy Mayor of Nice, delegate for the Euro-Mediterranean region, and president of the European Mediterranean Cities Network, Mr. Xavier Latour, municipality adviser, representative of higher education, research and continuing education, and the Dean of the College of Law and Political Science in Nice. The two sides discussed the proposed areas of cooperation and agreed on holding online meetings during the coming period through Zoom application to discuss future cooperation through joint degrees.

In his speech, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa welcomed the French delegation to Alexandria University premises, pointing to the relations between the two sides through academic cooperation and common degrees with many French universities, in Aix-Marseille, Poitier, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Grenoble in France. He pointed out the advantage of Alexandria University for having special French language departments in several faculties, which cooperate in research with French universities, as well as having a branch in the Francophone African state of Chad. He added that Alexandria University has also signed several cooperation agreements with many European universities in Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom, and with American universities as well. Konsowa indicated that he hopes to achieve more cooperation with French universities by creating more common degrees in the undergraduate and joint studies, as well as at the level of scientific research, the exchange of faculty and students, and cooperation through various research projects.

While the French delegation affirmed their keenness to cooperate with the deep-rooted Alexandria University, especially as it is one of the oldest universities in the Middle East. The delegation stressed the strong cultural and historical dimension linking Egypt and France, especially between Alexandria Governorate and the French municipality of Nice, hoping to consolidate cooperation with Alexandria University in several educational programs.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mohamed El-Feki, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, vice-dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mamdouh Mansour, Officer of International Cooperation at the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, Dr. Abeer El-Wakil, international Francophone relations officer, Dr. Ziad El-Sayyad, Executive Director of the Engineering Centre, Dr. Reem Hafez, coordinator of the Applied Linguistics Program and Professor at the Faculty of Arts, and Dr. Ahmed Selim, Professor of Business Administration at the Faculty of Commerce.
Seminar on "Management, Sustainability and Strategic Planning of the Center of Excellence for Water” at Faculty of Engineering

Dr Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, witnessed the activities of the symposium on “Management, Sustainability and Strategic Planning for the Centre of Excellence for Water at Alexandria University”, in the presence of Dr. Said Allam, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Graduate Studies and Research and Executive Director of the Center, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Wael El-Meghlani, Acting Vice-Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Dina El-Gayar, Deputy Director of the Project Management Unit at the University, and representatives of American and Egyptian universities participating in the center, as well as a group of faculty members, specialists and experts.

In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that the project of the Water Excellence Center at Alexandria University is working to find solutions to the expected water problems in light of population growth and the serious challenges we are currently facing. El-Ghandour expressed his hope that the workshop will come out with recommendations that contribute to achieving sustainability for the Water Excellence Center, which represents an expert house to provide practical solutions to all challenges related to the field of water in Egypt.

Dr. Said Allam indicated that the workshop discusses the strategic plan for the center, which works to support learning and applied research in the field of water, as well as work to address the most important challenges facing Egypt in sustainable water management.

While Dr. Essam Wahba confirmed that the workshop discusses the sustainability plan and the governance system of the center, which is concerned with studying the latest developments in the fields of science and scientific research and new uses of technology in the field of water, as well as providing consultations and training services in the field of water in line with the national strategy of the country’s sustainable development plan “Egypt Vision 2030”.






Inauguration of Seventh International Conference on Haematology and Marrow Transplantation (Hemo Alex 2023)

On Thursday the 11th of May 2023,, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Professor of Haematology, Internal Medicine, Marrow Transplantation at the Faculty of Medicine, inaugurated the activities of the Seventh Annual International Conference on Haematology and Marrow Transplantation in Alexandria (Hemo Alex), in the presence of Dr. Hossam Kamel, former President of Cairo University and Professor of Haematology and Marrow Transplantation, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Ayman El-Shayeb, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Iman Youssef, Head of the Internal Medicine Department in Alexandria, and Dr. Manal El-Sorady, Professor of haematology in Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, director of the bone marrow transplantation unit, and secretary of the conference, in addition to several researchers in blood diseases and bone marrow transplantation in Egypt and Arab countries.
Dr. El-Ghandour explained that the conference will discuss this year new scientific research papers related to benign and malignant blood diseases, bone marrow transplantation, new drugs, methods of treatment and diagnosis in marrow transplantation procedures, and the preparation of new cadres of doctors in this important medical specialty. During the conference, El-Ghandour announced the launch of the second bone marrow transplant unit at Al-Mowasat University Hospital since the beginning of April 2023, and receiving 9 cases so far, in order to reduce waiting lists, improve the level of service, and provide the best medical care to all patients in Alexandria.
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen indicated that the Department of Internal Medicine in Alexandria Medicine is witnessing developments in all its units, pointing out that the second bone marrow transplantation unit, which was launched last April, is fully equipped to provide excellent service to patients and train young doctors. He stressed that “Hemo Alex” conference witnesses remarkable development every year, hoping that the results of the conference serve the purposes of scientific research in all matters related to blood diseases and bone marrow transplantation.
While Dr. Iman Youssef confirmed that the conference will discuss all new methods of diagnosis and the role of modern treatment in the diagnosis. She pointed out that the treatment is spent at the expense of the state, in Alexandria University hospitals in, whether in the blood diseases unit or the marrow transplantation unit for leukaemia patients at Al-Mowasat Hospital.
Dr. Manal El-Sorady confirmed that the conference's activities extend through the 11th and 12th of May, adding that the conference discusses the developments that have been discovered in treatments and follows up on all that is new in blood diseases in terms of methods of diagnosis and treatment, and it also witnesses the presence of professors from all Egyptian universities.
The conference includes sessions to present and discuss difficult cases of blood diseases and workshops for bone marrow transplantation, during which a group of researchers and specialists speak over two days to transfer and exchange experiences, especially that participants include distinguished elite of professors and scientists of haematology from all over the world.



Alexandria University President Receives Delegation of Kuwaiti National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance

Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received in his office the delegation of the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance in the State of Kuwait, accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Al-Mutairi, the Kuwaiti cultural advisor, and Dr. Khaled Al-Muhareb, the Kuwaiti cultural attaché to the office of Alexandria, after a visit by the delegation to the faculties of medicine and dentistry, and the Mowasat Medical Complex, to inspect the classrooms and see the educational services provided by the university to students, and to meet Kuwaiti students in these faculties.
During the reception of the Kuwaiti delegation, Dr. Konsowa stressed the keenness of Alexandria University to take care of Kuwaiti students studying in its various faculties, offering them the best ways of modern education and distinguished programs scientifically and culturally, as well as providing the opportunity to cultural and sports activities, in addition to providing facilities and services, and solving all the difficulties they may face from through the International Students Office. Dr. Konsowa also reviewed during the meeting the university's vision and future expansion through the new Alexandria National University, and the establishment of Alexandria International University soon, as well as expansion in central and western Africa through the university’s branches in Chad and South Sudan. He also reviewed the existing cooperation between Alexandria University and global institutions and universities through joint degrees and programs, academic and student exchange, advanced educational programs that are compatible with the needs of the new labour market, and the transformation to the credit hours system.
For their part, the members of the delegation expressed their thanks and great appreciation to the University of Alexandria and its leaders for providing full care for Kuwaiti students studying at Alexandria University. They also expressed their aspiration for more cooperation with a great and prominent scientific edifice such as Alexandria University.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdelhakim, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Dean of the faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Hala Maklad, Executive Director of the University’s International Students Department.


Alexandria University Student Wins Second Place in Ninth Egyptian Universities Ideal Student Summit

The Organizing Committee for the activities of the ninth summit for the ideal male and female student and the second forum for goodwill ambassadors for students with disabilities 2023, announced the results of the forum.
The results included the second-place ideal male student prize at the level of Egyptian universities for Alexandria University student Karim Hossam Talaat Ahmed, fourth-year student at Management Information Systems Department (English Section). In the group competition, Karim Hossam in partnership with his colleagues at Alexandria University team also won the third place at the level of Egyptian universities.
It is worth noting that the forum was held at Fayoum University, under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the participation of 16 public and private universities, represented by 32 male students and 32 female students.
