Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received yesterday, Monday, August 25, 2025, a delegation from Beirut Arab University, headed by Dr. Ammar Al-Houri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Ber & Al-Ihsan Endowment and Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, accompanied by Dr. Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, President of Beirut Arab University, and Dr. Omar Al-Houri, Secretary-General of the University and Board Member.

The visit aimed to discuss areas of joint cooperation, including the establishment of an international branch of Beirut Arab University in collaboration with Alexandria University, as well as strengthening academic and research partnerships between the two institutions, whether in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, scientific projects, or knowledge exchange.

Dr. Konsowa also accompanied the Beirut Arab University delegation during their visit to Alexandria International University to explore the available facilities. They toured smart classrooms, the Technology Park buildings, advanced specialized laboratories, lecture halls, administrative offices, and the library. They also reviewed student service facilities and ongoing construction works in the new educational and administrative buildings, reflecting the university's modern infrastructure and its full support for the educational and research process.

President Konsowa held an extensive meeting with the directors of the university’s programs, during which he reviewed the operational system and implementation rates, while the delegation learned about the new academic programs offered by the university in the fields of humanities, social sciences, engineering, and medicine, which directly meet the needs of local, regional, and international labor markets. The meeting also highlighted the international agreements linking Alexandria International University with several prestigious global universities, such as Virginia Tech in the United States, and the Universities of Essex and East London in the United Kingdom.

The delegation concluded the visit by emphasizing that the advanced academic programs and facilities provided by Alexandria International University represent a solid step toward enhancing joint cooperation and expanding the partnership horizons between

the two universities.

Under the auspices of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, attended today, Thursday, August 21, 2025, the opening of the fourth edition of the Akhbar Al-Youm Higher Education Fair at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The event was also attended by journalist Islam Afifi, Chairman of Akhbar Al-Youm Institution, along with many leaders of public, national, private, and technological universities, as well as higher institutes.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa praised the organization of the exhibition. During his tour, he visited several booths representing public, private, national, and technological universities, as well as participating institutes. He commended the diversity of programs, scholarships, distinguished specializations, and the latest developments showcased by the institutions. He added that the exhibition offers a golden opportunity for visitors, including students and their parents, to explore the wide range of universities, faculties, and educational programs available in Egypt. It serves as a direct communication platform between university representatives and visitors, presenting academic programs, student activities, and training opportunities that help students choose the right specialization according to their abilities.

He further noted that both Alexandria University (public) and Alexandria National University are taking part in the fair, showcasing their distinguished academic programs aligned with the needs of the local, regional, and international labor market. The universities also highlighted their modern disciplines and interdisciplinary programs available for students.

Alexandria University's Graduate Studies and Research Council, meeting this morning, Thursday, August 21, 2025, chaired by Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, discussed the concept of open access publishing and its importance to researchers at the university.

The Council also discussed the different types of open access publishing, including Gold Open Access Publishing, Green Open Access Publishing, Bronze, Diamond, and Hybrid Open Access Publishing. The meeting also provided examples of each type, as well as the difference between open access publishing and traditional publishing, commonly known to researchers at the university as Closed Access Journals. The presentation also addressed the topic of open access publishing in international indexed journals, known as Predatory Journals, with a presentation of the specifications of these indexed journals and a list of them, known as the Beall's List, and how to identify them. The Council also reviewed the so-called "dark side" of academic publication, which could lead researchers to withdraw published scientific articles (retraction) from these international journals. This could harm researchers and authors, as well as Alexandria University.

The Council also approved some proposed amendments to the Artificial Intelligence curriculum.

The Council also approved the proposal to establish an Office of Research Integrity (ORI) at Alexandria University, under the authority of the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research. The Council reviewed the organizational structure of this office, the various tasks it will provide to researchers and authors, as well as the procedures and mechanisms for dealing with research withdrawn from international journals.

The Council also recommended identifying the names of auxiliary staff (teaching assistants/assistant lecturers) from the university's faculties and institutes who have exceeded the specified timeframes for obtaining academic degrees. This is in preparation for the implementation of Articles 155 and 156 of the Universities Regulation Law, deducting the two years of the COVID-19.

The Council also discussed the scientific cooperation program between the Faculty of Law and Al-Noor University in Iraq. The Council approved the proposal for a student exchange program between Alexandria University and the University of Chicago in the United States of America, and the partnership agreement between the Mediterranean Foundation and Alexandria University in research and academic fields of mutual interest and the exchange of students and faculty members between the two sides.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received today Dr. Ahmed Taha, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Supervision, to discuss the readiness of the university's hospitals for accreditation according to quality standards. This comes as part of the ongoing preparations for the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system in Alexandria Governorate.

Dr. Konsowa emphasized that the university, with its specialized hospitals, advanced medical infrastructure, and elite faculty members, doctors, and experts, is capable of being the cornerstone for the success of the system. He emphasized that Alexandria will become the first major governorate to implement the health insurance system next year, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership.

He pointed out that the university will harness all its scientific, medical, and human resources to ensure the success of this historic national project launched by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, out of a desire to provide comprehensive and safe healthcare to all citizens without discrimination.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Taha praised the high level of preparedness of Alexandria University Hospitals, describing them as a key partner in the success of the comprehensive health insurance system. He added that their expertise and advanced equipment will enable them to provide specialized medical services according to the highest standards of quality and patient safety. He also emphasized the Authority's commitment to providing the necessary technical support and training to expedite the accreditation of university hospitals and ensure their readiness to join the system.

On the sidelines of the visit, the university president and the head of the authority inaugurated the second conference on accreditation standards, health oversight, and comprehensive health insurance, hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University.

The conference was attended by Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, former Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University; Dr. Alaa Abdelmeguid, President of the Chamber of Private Sector Healthcare Providers; Dr. Essam Badawi, Executive Director of Hospitals at Alexandria University; Dr. Mohamed Badran, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria; and representatives of the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Oversight. A large attendance included university and health leaders, representatives of government, university, and private hospitals, Armed Forces and police hospitals, and medical unions.

The head of the authority also accompanied the university delegation on an inspection tour of Smouha University Hospital, where they were briefed on the latest medical equipment and ongoing development plans to meet accreditation standards.

At the conclusion of the event, the President of Alexandria University affirmed that the university is continuing to develop its hospitals and enhance their operational and human resources, in line with the state's plans to reform the healthcare system and ensure its sustainability, consolidating the university's position as a leading educational, therapeutic, and research institution serving Egyptian society.

In a new step that reflects the leadership of Egyptian higher education on the international stage, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, made an official visit to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, from August 10 to 14, 2025, in preparation for the inauguration of the university's branch in Malaysia, scheduled to begin operations in 2026.

The visit included a series of intensive meetings with the board of directors of the company hosting the branch, to discuss operational and logistical details, admission and registration mechanisms, and the design of academic programs in line with the latest international standards.

The University President also toured the new campus headquarters, which includes classrooms, research laboratories, advanced laboratories, and integrated educational and recreational facilities, ensuring a top-tier educational and research environment.

On the sidelines of the visit, Dr. Konsowa met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Minister of Higher Education, and the Minister of Vocational Education. The academic and professional programs to be offered were reviewed, emphasizing their alignment with national development priorities and the needs of the Malaysian and regional labour markets.

The international character of the branch was also highlighted through dual programs granting alumni degrees from Alexandria University and prestigious international universities, enhancing their competitiveness in regional and international labour markets.

In a meeting with the Chairman of the Malaysian Accreditation Authority, the University President discussed the mechanisms for accrediting the programs to be offered in accordance with local, regional, and international standards, providing the branch's graduates with a global competitive advantage.

Dr. Konsowa emphasized that the opening of the Alexandria University branch in Malaysia reflects the university's pioneering role as a global academic and research institution. He pointed out that this step comes within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030, which aims to internationalize Egyptian education, enhance its export, and open new horizons for transnational higher education.
