Education and Student Affairs Council Discusses University's preparations for First Semester Exams
Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, directed the Vice-Deans of the Faculties, during the meeting of the Education and Student Affairs Council on Monday, the 19th of December, to quickly complete all preparations for the first semester final exams for the academic year 2022/2023, according to the Supreme Council of Universities decree. He stated that around 198,000 male and female students of different academic levels in all university faculties and institutes will be entering the final exams, pointing to the necessity of announcing exam timetables for students within a week and preparing the schedules of invigilators and control members. Dr. Nabil emphasized the need for faculty members and the faculties’ assistants to attend to ensure discipline, and to provide full insurance for Examinations and control work. He also stressed on providing ambulances around the exam committees to face any emergency cases during exams, providing medical and nursing kits in all faculties for quick medical treatment, emphasizing that all safety and security measures are taken, to provide a safe environment and a suitable psychological atmosphere for students to perform exams with ease.
Dr. Nabil congratulated the new university students' union council, stressing the university's keenness to activate the union's role and provide all support for student activities and initiatives. He also thanked the former union for all its efforts during its period of responsibility for the previous year 2021/2022.
The Council congratulated the Faculty of Medicine on the occasion of renewing its accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education for the third year in a row.
A team of researchers at Alexandria University contributes to providing awareness messages to confront children's dental caries
As part of the Faculty’s mission to serve the community using the best scientific evidence, a team of researchers from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health developed a series of health education text messages and videos for mothers of preschool children to brush their children’s teeth. The development of the messages and videos is part of a comprehensive study aimed at addressing the problem of early childhood caries, which is one of the most prevalent health problems in children of this age group in Egypt (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34991701/). The messages are based on the social and subjective norms construct of the Theory of Planned Behavior, and the videos are based on the attitudes construct in the same theory. The research team consists of Dr. Merna Ehab, Dr. Nour Ammar, Dr. Hams Hamed, Dr. Nourhan Ali, Dr. Amira Elwan, Prof. Wafaa Essam and Prof. Maha El Tantawi. Vice President of Alexandria University Inaugurates Scout Exhibition and Skills Development Project
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, inaugurated the General Scout Exhibition and the project for developing the skills of scouts of Alexandria University, which was organized by the Department of Scouts and Public Service at the university, in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels plaza.
Dr. Wael Nabil indicated that this activity comes within the framework of the university's interest in developing and enhancing the professional and personal skills of its students, and benefiting from the creative and innovative ideas of the university's men and women, stressing the importance of scout work in teaching students leadership skills as future leaders.
Faculty of Education Hosts Novelist Essam Youssef in "Geniuses and Community Awareness" Seminar
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received the writer and novelist Essam Youssef, presenter of the "Geniuses" TV game show, where he gave him the university's shield in appreciation of the cultural and educational role he plays through his purposeful "Geniuses" programme. He stressed that the university would continue this success and will spread the idea of these competitions among students of different faculties to contribute to raising their intellectual and cultural level.
Mr. Youssef had met earlier with Alexandria University students in an educational seminar organized by the Faculty of Education under the title "Geniuses and Community Awareness". Among the participants in the seminar were Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Anwar Farrag, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Gamal, Secretary of the Family House in Alexandria, Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Salem Abdelrazek, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Community Service Affairs, Mr. Ehab Zakaria, member of the Parliament, as well as several deans and vice deans of faculties, in addition to a group of professors, thinkers, and intellectuals in Alexandria.
In his speech, Dr. Wael Nabil expressed his pleasure with the participation of this large number of students who represent the future of the new Egypt, stressing the importance of benefiting from the experience of the “Geniuses” TV programme and trying to employ it educationally to push students to learn, adding that the role of the university is no longer limited to science, but rather includes organizing such meetings, which contribute to increasing students' cultural awareness and knowledge. He also indicated that Alexandria University's participation in the “Geniuses” programme represents a qualitative and creative breakthrough that can be used as a competitive educational strategy.
Writer and TV host Essam Youssef explained that he is happy to be in Alexandria University, a fortress of knowledge, assuring the students that one of the most important reasons for success is to have a dream they seek to achieve with perseverance and diligence. He added that geniuses, talented and creative people represent the hope of the nation with their talents and capabilities. He also explained that the idea of the "Geniuses" programme represents a qualitative and creative breakthrough that can be made use of by its implementation on a large scale within schools and universities, to bring about a noticeable change in the psychological and academic aspects of students as future investment projects.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed Anwar Farrag, Dean of the Faculty of Education, emphasized that the “Geniuses” TV programme is a pioneering and unique Egyptian experience based on honest competition among students in a creative scientific atmosphere, that instils noble educational values in the hearts of students, that may exceed what educational systems have provided over the decades. He indicated that the “Geniuses” programme is the most powerful way that makes the students, whether in Egypt or in the Arab world, search for information by themselves, whether in science, arts, literature, technology, or history. It establishes the concept of self-education and spontaneous activity, and this principle has become necessary in modern education systems.
Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Education and Student Affairs, stressed the importance of discovering geniuses through nomination by their peers, holding various tests and having certain standards, indicating that this does not end when geniuses are discovered, but rather they must be cared for and nurtured by urging them to persevere and endure difficulties, and training them to solve problems that they encounter.
Dr. Waleed Kanoush Appointed as Head of the Fine Arts Sector at Ministry of Culture
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated Dr. Waleed Kanoush, Professor and Head of the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, on the occasion of the ministerial decree issued by Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, to appoint him as Head of the Fine Arts Sector in the Ministry, wishing him continuous success and progress.
