Graduate Studies and Research Council Discusses Challenges Facing International Scientific Publishing
Alexandria University’s Council of Graduate Studies and Research, headed by Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, discussed in its session held today, Tuesday 23 January 2024, the challenges facing scientific publishing in international journals for researchers. Dr. Saeed confirmed that Alexandria University gives this issue the utmost importance because it is one of the main criteria in universities ranking. He also stressed that faculty representatives need to monitor the obstacles to international publishing facing researchers, identify their suggestions, and try to overcome them.

Dr. Saeed pointed out the need to organize seminars and workshops in faculties that aim to enhance and raise the efficiency of scientific research at Alexandria University and improve the quality of scientific publishing in major specialized journals. He added that journals that have an international classification have global recognition among various academic institutions, in addition to providing various services for researchers, especially with regard to evaluating their scientific research.
Dr. Saeed urged researchers at Alexandria University on the necessity of publishing in international periodicals and magazines to provide the opportunity to obtain scholarships in international universities, and also obtain the necessary funding to complete their research studies. A brief overview was also presented during the council meeting about the scientific periodicals and magazines issued by Alexandria University, amounting to 37 scientific journals in different disciplines, as well as how to develop and advance them.
The Council approved a memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the Military Medical Academy in the fields of research, education, training and community service within the scope of health care, and a memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) Department of Marine Engineering and Ship Architecture and the National University of Science and Technology, International Maritime College Oman (IMCO), and a memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Pharmacy) and Saarland University in Germany. The Council also approved the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and Zhejiang Yuxiu University of Foreign Studies in China.
President of Alexandria University Receives Kent State University Delegation to Discuss Means of Cooperation
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received a delegation from Kent State University, Ohio, USA. The delegation included Dr. Marcello Fantoni, Vice President of Kent State University for Global Education, and Dr. Pacifique Niyonzima, Director of African Affairs at Kent State University, to discuss ways of research and academic cooperation in various scientific fields, as well as studying the establishment of an international branch of Kent State University in Alexandria.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa stressed Alexandria University’s keenness to support scientific and academic cooperation relations with American universities, pointing out that Alexandria University has adopted an ambitious and inspiring strategic plan that seeks cooperation with international universities that have prestigious reputation through the establishment of joint academic programs and degrees. He explained that the meeting discussed the possibility of cooperation through establishing joint academic degrees with the Faculty of Business, research cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering, and sending researchers from Alexandria University to join research teams at Kent State University, as well as the possibility of Alexandria University joining the academic alliance established by Kent State University in cooperation with other universities.

The meeting also discussed establishing an international branch of Kent State University at the Alexandria University campus in Borg El Arab, to provide distinguished higher education in a competitive framework that enables new graduates to have the ability to join the local and international labour market, and to possess the skills and abilities that qualify them for that. Dr. Konsowa pointed out that this approach comes within the framework of the university’s interest in implementing the mandates of the President of the Republic, paying attention to international partnerships to achieve the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy.
While Dr. Marcello Fantoni stressed his university’s keenness to support and strengthen relations with Egyptian universities, especially Alexandria University, which has distinguished educational programs, explaining that Kent State University is ranked highly in the state of Ohio in the United States of America. He added that Kent State University has international branches around the world and has many different and unique scientific specializations. Dr. Fantoni promised to convey the vision of Alexandria University towards the proposed cooperation to take the necessary measures and steps towards activating this cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President of Alexandria University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. El-Sayed El-Seifi, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Dr. Essam Wahba, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant to the University President for International University Branch Affairs, Dr. Boshra Salem, Assistant to the University President for University Classification, Dr. Sameh Shehata, Supervisor of the Office of International Relations at Alexandria University, Dr. Omnia Yacout, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Sherine Adel, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, during which they reviewed the joint programs and degrees in their faculties in cooperation with various international universities, and the international degrees to be established, as well as the university’s vision towards internationalization, its goal, and the steps it took to achieve this goal.


Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program Delegation Visits Alexandria University
Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, received on Sunday 21 January 2024, Dr. Amal Mowafi, Director of the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the American University in Cairo (AUC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher education and Scientific Research. The program aims to build the capabilities of Egyptian cadres working in the governmental and non-governmental sectors, Egyptian and private universities, and research centres, by providing scholarship opportunities for master’s and post-doctoral studies and short-term training that are consistent with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the National Climate Change Strategy.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant President of the University for International University Branch Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Abdelkarim Abd-Rabbo, former Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research and Director of the Centre for Adaptation to Climate Change at the University, Dr. Mahmoud Adel Hassan, Professor at the same Institute, Dr. Dina Wafa, Deputy Director of the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program, and Ms. Leila El-Lewendy, Director of Scholarships at the Program.
In his speech, Dr. Hesham Saeed welcomed the attendees, stressing Alexandria University’s keenness to strengthen the bonds of cooperation with the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program, and joint work in all academic fields in general and in the field of climate change in particular. He explained that the university has organized many workshops and training courses, and its researchers publish several scientific papers in the specialized scientific fields concerning this vital topic as well as other related fields, such as water, energy, and green hydrogen issues and their applications. He added that the university also participates in implementing projects through the Alexandria University Technology Park incubator in a way that serves sustainable development and Egypt’s 2030 vision.
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen indicated the readiness of Alexandria University to develop cooperation with the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program and American universities in the field of various student activities and discussing the possibility of organizing student activities and events in several Egyptian universities.
Dr. Amal Mowafy praised the cooperation and joint coordination between Alexandria University and the Egyptian Pioneers and Scholars Program at the bachelor’s level, and expressed her aspiration to develop this cooperation at the postgraduate level through grants provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and working to form scientific schools, support innovations and patents, and exchange opinions, ideas, and experiences in the fields of climate change and sustainable development.
Education and Student Affairs Council Praises the Efforts of First Semester Final Exams Works
Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, discussed during the Education and Student Affairs Council meeting held this morning, Monday January 15, 2024, the progress of the first semester final exams, praising the efforts of the dean and vice-deans of faculties, and all university employees in regularizing the workflow of examinations, managing the examination process at a distinguished level, students’ commitment to the instructions and directives followed within the exam halls, and complete regularity in the work of controls to complete grading, monitoring and review in preparation for announcing the results to students as soon as possible. He also stressed the necessity of continuing to provide the appropriate climate and all the logistical needs of the students, equipping the halls with everything that ensures their comfort while taking the exams.
- Dr. Sameh Nakhla, Director of the University’s Measurement and Evaluation Center, gave a presentation on a summary of the mechanism for implementing the university’s examination policy, which was approved by the Alexandria University Council.

President of Alexandria University Receives Ambassador of Tanzania to Discuss Means of Cooperation
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received Ambassador Richard Mutayoba Makanzo, Ambassador of Tanzania in Cairo, and his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways of cooperation between Alexandria University and Tanzanian universities in areas of common interest.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Ibrahim Rehab, Advisor to the University President for African Affairs.

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa stressed the keenness of Alexandria University to consolidate ways of cooperation with Tanzanian universities in various scientific fields, and to provide all means of care and distinguished educational and research services for Tanzanian students studying at Alexandria University, explaining that Alexandria University is working hard to develop and advance the skills of African students in general so that they can participate in the renaissance of their countries. He added that Alexandria University is looking forward to further cooperation with Tanzanian universities in the fields of water, renewable energy and electricity, and to continue sending medical convoys to consolidate the historical relations linking the two countries.

For his part, the Tanzanian ambassador praised the distinguished scientific and academic level of Alexandria University, stressing the depth of the historical relations between Egypt and Tanzania. He pointed out that there are currently 47 Tanzanian students enrolled at Alexandria University. He also stressed the keenness of the Republic of Tanzania to develop joint cooperation with Egyptian academic bodies in general and Alexandria University in particular, especially in the areas of educational programs and joint research projects in various academic disciplines.
