Alexandria University Organizes Comprehensive Medical Convoy to El Wadi Village in King Mariout Area
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and under the supervision of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector headed by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University, and within the framework of the university’s role in serving the areas most in need, Alexandria University organized a comprehensive medical convoy to El-Wadi village in the King Mariout area, in cooperation with Inner Wheel Alexandria Capital and Inner Wheel Sporting organizations, to provide medical services to the people of the region.

Dr. Wafa El-Sehli, professor at the Faculty of Medicine and rapporteur of the university’s convoy committee, stated that the convoy witnessed the medical examination of a large number of cases from the village’s people, explaining that the total number of cases that were examined amounted to 637 cases, distributed as follows: 61 gynaecology cases, 92 dermatology cases, 92 internal medicine, 110 paediatrics, 49 otorhinolaryngology, 91 orthopaedics, 83 dental cases, and 59 ophthalmia. She added that several cases were transferred to the main university hospital, including 1 paediatric case, 20 dental, and 10 otorhinolaryngology.

The convoy witnessed a large turnout from the villagers, who expressed their happiness and thanks to Alexandria University for the presence of the convoy and its recurrence on a regular basis to serve the citizens of the village.
Alexandria University Ranked First Locally and 492 Globally in Webometrics International Ranking of Universities
The Webometrics ranking of universities announced the release of the January 2024 edition of the general classification, where Alexandria University ranked first among Egyptian universities and ranked (492) globally in the classification, which includes 32 thousand educational institutions from all over the world.

Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, indicated that these results reflect the university’s efforts towards encouraging faculty members and researchers to international scientific publishing, providing technical support to faculties, providing a digital library to enhance the development of knowledge and skills among researchers at Alexandria University, and providing sources of access to academic research and information resources, which contributes to its advancement in international ranking.
It is worth noting that the Webometrics ranking is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab Foundation, which is affiliated with (CSIC) and is considered one of the most important research bodies in Spain. The classification is the largest in terms of the number of higher education institutions that are analysed in preparation for participation. The methodology in the general Webometrics ranking is based on a 50% awarded to the sum of shared general knowledge, as well as the influence of the contents of the university’s website, 10% the number of highly cited researchers in the Google Scholar database, and 40% the number of papers included in the top 10% cited in the Semago database during the five years prior to the year preceding the year of enumeration.
As pf the year 2024, the Webometrics general ranking will be issued twice a year, at the end of January and July of each year, as an incentive for educational institutions to have a greater presence on the internet, display their activities accurately, and to pay attention to web policy, open access and transparency.
President of Alexandria University and Bibliotheca Alexandrina Director Renew Memorandum of Understanding of Centre for Hellenistic Studies
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library of Alexandria (Bibliotheca Alexandrina), signed the renewal of the memorandum of understanding between the two sides, which is an extension of the previous memorandum of understanding that resulted in the establishment of the Alexandria Centre for Hellenistic Studies at the headquarters of the Library of Alexandria as a distinguished centre for Hellenistic studies at the graduate level. It is academically linked to Alexandria University, and includes scientific departments of languages, literature, history, and philosophy.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding was witnessed by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Naglaa Abou-Agag, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, Head of the Academic Research Sector at the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Mohamed Soliman, Head of the Cultural Communication Sector at the Library of Alexandria, and Dr. Emad Khalil, Director of the Centre for Hellenistic Studies at the Library of Alexandria.

In his speech on this occasion, Dr. Konsowa stressed Alexandria University’s keenness to continue close cooperation with the Library of Alexandria, pointing to the excellence of the academic level of the Alexandria Centre for Hellenistic Studies and the university’s aspiration to develop other programs in cooperation with the Library, within the framework of Alexandria University’s international relations with high-ranked international universities, to provide capable academic programs to raise the level of education and scientific research.

Dr. Ahmed Zayed expressed his pleasure with the distinguished relations between the Library of Alexandria and Alexandria University, as the latter provides all means of assistance and support so that the Library can fulfil its role in serving students and researchers and creating the climate to expand cultural activity in the Alexandrian society. He stressed the importance of the Alexandria Centre for Hellenistic Studies to study the Hellenistic period as a transitional stage in Egyptian history, pointing to Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s future plans to provide distinguished scientific programs in cooperation and joint coordination with Alexandria University.



Dr. Hesham Saeed Inaugurates Second Annual Forum for Digital Library Specialists
On Wednesday, 31 January 2024, Dr. Hesham Saeed, Vice President of Alexandria University for Graduate Studies and Research, inaugurated the activities of the second annual forum for digital library specialists at Alexandria University, under the title “Analysis of the Reality of the Digital Library Units at the University’s Faculties and Institutes for the year 2022/2023 and the Future Plan for the Coming Year,” which will be held over two days from January 31 to February 1, in order to make the most of the services of the digital library units at the libraries of the university’s faculties and institutes.
The opening session was attended by Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Sciences, Dr. Sherine Adel Nosseir, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Alaa Gaafar, Executive Director of the Digital Library Unit at Alexandria University, Faculties’ Vice Deans for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and the digital library specialists at the faculties and institutes of Alexandria University.
In his speech, Dr. Hesham Saeed emphasized that the digital library plays a vital role in supporting university education and scientific research and enhancing the development of knowledge and skills among students and researchers at Alexandria University. He added that the digital library has a positive impact on the learning and academic development process, as it allows easy access and permanent availability to research and academic information without the need to move to the actual library, in addition to providing a wide range of rich academic resources, which includes a huge collection of e-books, scientific articles, research and dissertations listed on databases, enabling the researcher to explore various topics. Saeed added that the role of digital libraries is not only limited to these services, but it extends to very important services such as the checking and examination service for plagiarism and academic citations, stressing that some other services will be introduced for which recommendations were issued by the Supreme Council for Postgraduate Studies and Research last month, such as the proofreading and linguistic revision service, which is an important factor in acceptance of scientific research into international journals with a high impact factor.
While Dr. Ahmed Wahban thanked those in charge of the digital library at Alexandria University for their continuous efforts to improve the digital library and serve the educational and research process at Alexandria University, hoping that this forum would be a good opportunity to communicate and learn about the various services of the university’s digital library.
Meanwhile, Dr. Alaa Gaafar reviewed the reality of the digital library units during the past year, through quality control and service development. She stressed that the digital library at Alexandria University seeks during the future period the necessity of launching the internal digital repository system IDAR for the digital library units of Alexandria University, to link the central unit with the sub-units in the university’s faculties and institutes, controlling the quality of bibliographic records on the EULC, converting all digital library transactions to the online system, completing the digitization of printed dissertations at the university in cooperation with the central library, and providing an internet subscription to the digital sub-library unit at each faculty or institute.
At the conclusion of the forum, Dr. Hesham Saeed honoured the best digital sub-libraries for the year 2023, in view of the effort and dedication they made last year to improve the digital library and serve the research process in their faculties.
Alexandria University Council Confirms Readiness for Commencing Second Academic Semester
During the Alexandria University Council meeting held today, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, thanked the deans, vice-deans, faculty members, assisting staff, and administrators of all university faculties and institutes, for their complete discipline in organizing the work of the first semester final exams and completing them in an efficient manner. He pointed out the necessity of completing the control work and announcing the results to the students as soon as possible, as well as completing all required maintenance work before the start of study in the second semester.
The Council agreed to form a committee represented by all sectors of the university to prepare student activities plan to begin with the start of the second semester, aiming to develop awareness, discover the talents of students of various faculties, and motivate them to practice all scientific, cultural, sporting and social activities.

The Council approved the allocation of 20 scholarships from the university for the master’s degree at the Faculty of Specific Education, with a 50% reduction in the value of the credit hour.

The Council agreed to accept donations submitted by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce to the Faculty of Engineering, which include a set of equipment for a solar energy station worth 8.5 million pounds.

The Council honoured Dr. Sami Abdelaziz Salem, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, for the end of his tenure as Dean, wishing him success.
The Council approved the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Tourism and Hotels) and ACT Computer Company,the renewal of the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Pharmacy) and Saarland University in Germany, and the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and the National University of Science and Technology (Oman International Maritime College). The Council also approved the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Medicine) and Gulf Medical University, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the Military Medical Academy in the fields of research, education, training and community service in the field of health care, and the renewal of the scientific cooperation agreement in the field of graduate studies and research between ( The Institute of Linguistic Studies and Translation at the Faculty of Arts) and the Faculty of Language and Media in Alexandria - the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. In addition, the Council approved the cooperation protocol to be concluded between Alexandria University and the Egyptian Society for the Preservation of Heritage, Environment and Family and Rotary Egypt Area 2451, and the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University’s Centre for Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL) and the American Council on International Education ACTR/ACCELS for the CIs Spark program.
The Council approved the promotion of 20 faculty members, 14 to the position of professor and 10 to the position of associate professor, the appointment of 18 lecturers, and the granting of 85 doctoral degrees and 125 master’s degrees in various scientific disciplines.
