Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated the students of the Faculty of Pharmacy who won first place in the competition for the best graduation project, at the DUPHAT International Exhibition for Pharmaceutical and Technology in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, among 400 projects from 72 different countries.
Dr. Mervat Qassem, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, said that the project was attended by 15 students, and it is an electronic application that demonstrates how to deal with the side effects of medicines, especially kidney transplant patients, and that it adjusts the dates of different doses, and was designed with the help of a programmer, who founded it According to their instructions, the program is characterized by the possibility of using it without the Internet, and it is also available for free without paying any costs.
The Dubai International Exhibition for Pharmaceuticals and Technology honored the winning students of Alexandria University, in the presence of a group of the best international companies and leading names in the fields of pharmacy and medical technology, in addition to the participation of doctors, project owners, pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution companies.

On Sunday the 21st of May 2023, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, inaugurated the program of the training course organized by the Faculty of Agriculture, under the title “Developing the Rumi Cheese Industry to Compete in Global Markets”, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Bahey El-Din, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Heba Sabri Salama, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Aisha Abdelmaqsoud, Head of the Department of Dairy Science and Technology, Dr. Morsi Abulseoud El-Souda, Emeritus Professor of the Department of Dairy Science and Technology, and a group of industrialists, experts, faculty members and graduates.

In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that this program is one of the most important strategic goals of Alexandria University headed by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, which is to enhance cooperation between scientific research and industry, with the aim of achieving economic growth, assisting the state in reducing the import bill, enhancing the competitiveness of the national industry, and supporting local manufacturing. El-Ghandour indicated that this training course emphasizes the importance of integration and cooperation between the university’s research centres and bodies and industrialists, in order to achieve the country’s sustainable development goals (Egypt’s Vision 2030). He also expressed his hope that the training course will come out with recommendations that help provide a competitive local product In global markets, and contribute to transforming the innovative research produced by Alexandria University into industrial products that meet current and future needs.

While Dr. Mohamed Bahey El-Din confirmed that Alexandria University spares no effort in supporting applicable scientific research, indicating that this practical training course will be conducted at the biochemistry laboratories of dairy microbes under the supervision of Dr. Morsi El-Souda, former dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and a global expert in the production and processing of Dairy. Dr. Bahey El-Din thanked the Department of Dairy Science and Technology for its efforts in providing applicable scientific research, and obtaining a number of research projects capable of achieving global competitiveness.

Dr. Heba Salama indicated that this training course aims to link scientific research with the industrial community, to benefit from the results of research and studies produced by the dairy department at the faculty, and provide all scientific services and advice to the industrial community, noting that this course will follow up and evaluate the best research proposals that provide practical and applied solutions to the challenges in the cheese and dairy industry.

Dr. Aisha Abdelmaksoud confirmed that holding this training course was due to the large consumption of different types of cheese, as data issued by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development indicate that the volume of cheese consumed in Egypt will reach 734 thousand tons by 2028, as the demand for cheese increases, which It is one of the most popular foods all over the world, in addition to the announcement by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology to open the door to receiving proposals for applied research projects and economic technological solutions to meet the challenges facing the local industry (Apple 2 initiative), which was launched in July 2022. She announced that the dairy department has obtained four research projects with this initiative in cooperation between the Academy of Scientific Research and Alexandria University, and they are: a project to produce starter cultures for the Rumi cheese industry (white cheese, Damietta cheese, and speeding up the maturity of Rumi cheese), a project to manufacture Rumi cheese with a starter with the best salting method, and a project to produce a natural preservative for milk and study its effect on the components of milk, and a project to fortify yogurt with sweet potatoes for patients with diabetes and high cholesterol.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated the professors of the Faculty of Agriculture in El-Shatby, Dr. Marsa El-Souda, Dr. Ibrahim El-Sayed, and Dr. Sameh Awad, after receiving today the contracts for their winning projects within the initiative to link scientific research with industry, which is the appeal launched by the Academy of Scientific Research in July 2022, to find innovative applied scientific and technological solutions for the dairy sector.
Today, Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and Ms. Doaa Salima, Executive Director of the Center for Industrial Modernization, handed over the contracts for the three winning projects to the professors of the Faculty of Agriculture.
 
 
Dr. Muhammad Bahey El-Din, Dean of the College of Agriculture, indicated that these projects come within the framework of the strategy launched by Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, President of the University, with the need to benefit from the research outputs and projects of the university, develop the concept of knowledge-based industry and maximize the benefit of research to serve the community, explaining that cooperation With industry, support for innovation, innovators, and technological entrepreneurship comes at the top of the priorities of Alexandria University and Egypt's vision for development 2030, and he added that 3 research outputs submitted by the Faculty of Agriculture out of 8 at the level of the Republic were selected for those who have the ability to implement their projects with industrial partners according to specific criteria and a relevant time plan.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Sixth International Conference of the Faculty of Agriculture was held under the title “The Future of Livestock and Food Security,” organized by the Department of Animal and Fish Production at the Faculty of Agriculture in cooperation with the Egyptian Society for Animal Production. The conference lasted for three days, in the presence of specialists from Egyptian universities and research institutes, as well as various Arab and foreign universities, former vice presidents of the university, deans and vice deans of agricultural faculties from Egyptian universities, and public figures from the Fisheries Resources Authority and the Food Safety Authority.

Dr. Mohmed Bahey El-Din Mohamed, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, indicated that the conference activities included discussing many important issues, most notably food security. He explained that the sessions discussed several topics related to sustainable development goals in light of climate change and water scarcity, reformulating the livestock strategy and correcting its path to provide animal resources, as well as the reality and future of the poultry and fisheries industry, the focus of modern technologies, linking and intersecting sciences, and their role in improving the performance of farm animals and their production efficiency.

Dr. Heba Sabry Salama, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, indicated that more than 300 professors from universities, institutes, research centres and those interested in livestock participated in the conference. The activities included a workshop on industrial applications of nanotechnology and microbiology for the sustainable development of livestock in light of climate change. The conference also included online scientific sessions in which professors from Spain, China, Japan, Mexico, and Turkey and a group of university and research centre professors participated. Sessions were also conducted on fish farming and the use of magnetic water technology on the performance of farm animals.

Dr. Heba Salama also indicated holding a session on poultry wealth and modern techniques in animal nutrition to maximize productivity of farm animals. She added that the conference’s recommendations emphasized the necessity of making optimal use of research related to what is known as gene expression, transcriptomics, and propium in improving the productivity of farm animals, while adapting the rapid development in estimating the outcomes of various metabolic processes to benefit from this in achieving sustainable development of livestock, especially after it has become a necessity with the increase in conducting research related to the genetic improvement of Egyptian animals as a main means to achieve sustainable development of livestock, poultry and fish wealth. The conference also recommended the need to take quick executive measures to establish a gene bank or local animal genetic assets, and work to complete the production chain of the poultry industry, whether in the commercial or rural sector, in order to ensure the continued sustainable development of this important component of the livestock sector, which represents the fulfilment of an important part of individuals’ needs for animal protein, with the need to pay attention to reducing the intermediate links in marketing poultry and its products, which contributes to reducing the cost of production and lowering prices.
