Alexandria University Receives Fulbright Commission Delegation in Cairo to Discuss Cooperation
Professor Dr. Abelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received a Fulbright Commission delegation on Thursday, May 8, 2025, headed by Dr. Maggie Nassif, Executive Director of the Commission. The delegation discussed cooperation between Alexandria University and the Commission in research and academic fields of mutual interest. The delegation also discussed Fulbright grants for research and study in the United States to develop the skills of researchers and faculty members at Alexandria University. The delegation reviewed the Commission's programs and scholarships offered for study in the United States, and discussed mechanisms for supporting institutional capacity and exchanging academic expertise.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Abdelhakim, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Boshra Salem, Assistant President for International Rankings, Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant President for International Branches, and Dr. Lana Habib, Supervisor of the Centre for Teaching Arabic to Foreigners (TAFL) at Alexandria University.
During the meeting, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa expressed his appreciation for the important and vital role played by the Fulbright Commission in supporting researchers. He praised the Commission's efforts in providing genuine academic opportunities that contribute to the development of academic competencies in accordance with international standards. He emphasized Alexandria University's commitment to expanding international cooperation with all funding agencies to develop the educational process at Alexandria University. He noted Alexandria University's commitment to providing the necessary facilities for all its students and faculty members to obtain grants provided by the Commission, as well as exchanging expertise between researchers in various fields, implementing joint research projects, scheduling educational exchanges, and exchanging students and faculty members between the two sides. He also highlighted the development of educational programs, offering joint academic programs, developing the skills of researchers and faculty members, organizing workshops, seminars, and conferences, and offering specialized training programs.
For her part, Dr. Maggie Nassif expressed her appreciation for Alexandria University for its outstanding academic and research capabilities and vast human capital. She also reviewed the numerous new opportunities and grants offered to professors and researchers to conduct research in the United States in various fields, in addition to providing graduate and postdoctoral programs in academic and professional fields.
Alexandria University Receives Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, today received Dr. Mohamed Abdeldayem El-Gendy, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy, and his accompanying delegation at the university headquarters. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Hassan Yahya, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Da’wah at the Islamic Research Academy, Dr. Ibrahim El-Gamal, Director-General of Preaching in Alexandria, Dr. Mostafa El-Tahan and Dr. Youssef El-Mansy, members of the Supreme Committee for Da’wah at the Islamic Research Academy. The visit aims to enhance cooperation between Alexandria University and the Islamic Research Academy in scientific and advocacy fields of mutual interest, exchange expertise, and organize joint events aimed at disseminating moderate thought and promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence among young people, in line with contemporary needs.
In his speech, Dr. Konsowa welcomed the guests, emphasizing his appreciation for the efforts made by the Islamic Research Academy and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, a symbol of moderation and moderate Islam, under the leadership of the eminent scholar Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, in spreading awareness of the sublime values and principles of moderate Islam. He emphasized the importance of state institutions working together to implement comprehensive, ongoing advocacy programs to educate students and confront extremist and corrupt ideas. He also praised the outstanding level of seminars and lectures delivered by Al-Azhar preachers at Alexandria University.
Dr. Konsowa also emphasized the importance of instilling hope in the hearts of young people, responding to their inquiries, and unleashing their energies and creativity, directing them toward building the new republic based on a knowledge economy. He emphasized the university's commitment to providing distinguished educational services that achieve local, regional, and international competitiveness.
Dr. El-Gendy expressed his appreciation for Alexandria University's cooperation with the Islamic Research Academy and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, given the long-standing historical relationship between the two sides. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between educational and advocacy institutions in spreading awareness among young people. He also referred to the Islamic Research Academy's advocacy weeks at Egyptian universities, which introduce young people to the concept of intellectual security, correct their perception of Islamic heritage, and highlight the importance of knowledge and ethics in building the nation, confronting extremism, and preserving identity.
It is worth noting that today marks the conclusion of the seventh Islamic Da’wah (Advocacy) Week at Alexandria University, held in the conference hall at the Faculty of Nursing in Smouha. The event was attended by a large number of students from various faculties. It included several seminars delivered by a group of enlightened religious figures, aiming to spread cultural and religious awareness among students.

Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, witnessed the opening of the Seventh Islamic Propagation “Da’wah” Week at Alexandria University.
The event that took place in the conference hall of the Faculty of Nursing was held by the Supreme Committee for Da’wah at the Islamic Research Complex under the generous patronage of His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. It was attended by Dr. Mohamed El-Doweini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr. Mahmoud El-Hawari, Assistant Secretary-General for Da’wah and Religious Media, Dr. Hassan Yahya, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Da’wah at the Islamic Research Complex, in addition to a large number of deans and vice deans of faculties, faculty members, and students.
In his speech, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the university's commitment to hosting cultural seminars and enlightened religious figures to spread awareness among its students and build their integrated personalities. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between Alexandria University, the Islamic Research Academy, and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to emphasize the peaceful teachings of Islam, confront extremist ideas, and enhance society's ability to confront intellectual and social challenges at all levels. He highlighted the importance of intellectual security in the stability of societies and nations and in confronting deviant ideas through the combined efforts of various community institutions to instil a moderate ideology and protect the minds of young people.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed El-Doweini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, emphasized the importance of caring for young people and their issues, as they bear the responsibility for building the future. Therefore, they must be well-prepared. He noted that security is not just about borders and food security, but intellectual and cultural security is equally important; in fact, it is one of the most dangerous issues to be aware of, given the potential disasters it can cause. Therefore, it is imperative to protect and safeguard young people from all possible sources of harm, to guarantee stability of our societies, which can only be achieved through a moderate and sound approach, far removed from extremism or complacency. He emphasized that adherence to religious teachings, identity, and traditions is the foundation and starting point for progress and prosperity.
The lecture was followed by rich discussions, significant interaction from the audience, and responses to university students' questions about the concept of intellectual security in light of rapid societal changes.
The week includes a number of seminars and intellectual meetings held over five days, including the following titles: "Intellectual Security: Its Concept and Importance," "Religious Discourse and Intellectual Security: How Can We Create an Influential Religious Discourse?", "Islamic Heritage and Its Role in Achieving Intellectual Security," "The Role of Educational Institutions in Promoting Intellectual Security: Reality and Hope," and "Social Media and Its Impact on Intellectual Security."
85th Cultural Seminar of the Popular and Military Defense Forces at Egyptian Universities and Institutes
As part of the General Command of the Armed Forces' commitment to fostering a sense of loyalty and belonging among youth at Egyptian universities and institutes, Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and Major General of Staff Osama Abdelhamid Dawoud, Commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces, attended the 85th Cultural Seminar on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, organized by the Armed Forces, represented by the Popular and Military Defense Forces, in cooperation with Alexandria University.
The seminar was attended by retired Major General Hafez Mahmoud Hassan Hafez, former Assistant Chief of Operations of the Armed Forces, the Vice Presidents of Alexandria University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces Authority, the deans and vice deans of faculties and institutes at Alexandria University, families of martyrs, people with disabilities, and university students.
Dr. Konsowa began his speech by congratulating President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian Armed Forces, and the Egyptian people on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the recovery of the beloved Sinai, after years of difficult negotiations led by Egyptian diplomacy with competence after the glorious October victories that marked a turning point in Egypt’s modern history. He expressed his hope that Egypt would achieve all the growth, prosperity, and progress it aspires to under its wise leadership. He added that he is pleased to have his students participate in this distinguished celebration, which confirms the political leadership’s keenness to care for youth and provide the opportunity for our students to participate in these purposeful activities.
Dr. Konsowa stressed the important role played by the Popular and Military Defense Forces in enhancing cooperation with Egyptian universities through organizing educational seminars to raise awareness and develop a sense of nationalism among Egyptian youth in general and university students in particular, instilling a sense of loyalty and belonging among them, and strengthening the love of the homeland and sacrifice for it through these educational seminars that are held continuously in all Egyptian universities. He pointed out that what is currently happening in Egypt in terms of national achievements and projects and the tremendous leap at all levels is no less important than the battles and wars fought by fathers and grandfathers to liberate the homeland, just as the Armed Forces stand on the front line defending the homeland and protecting its people, they also contribute in parallel to various fields of development by implementing many ambitious achievements and projects to support comprehensive development and provide the requirements of a decent life for the Egyptian people. He added that Alexandria University seeks to achieve an ambitious strategy to provide high-quality education and graduate distinguished students, capable of keeping pace with development at the local, regional, and international levels, and to create educational programs for them that keep pace with the rapid development in the needs of the labour market.
At the end of his speech, Dr. Konsowa highlighted to the students the importance of this seminar is to proudly recall and commemorate the heroic deeds and memories of Egypt's heroes of the Armed Forces, learning from their determination, perseverance, and all their lofty values and principles to confront the challenges of our time.
Major General of Staff Osama Abdelhamid Dawoud expressed his great pleasure to be at Alexandria University, and conveyed the greetings of Lieutenant General Abdelmeguid Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, and Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces to the attendees. He expressed his pride and honour to be among his students, who represent the bright tomorrow and the promising future, as Egypt has great hopes for them in building the new republic. He explained in his speech that Egypt is now experiencing a state of stability in many areas after facing many challenges and difficulties, which reflects the vision of the enlightened leadership in managing the country's affairs in various international issues. He stressed that Egyptian policy is characterized by balance and wisdom in addressing all issues in a way that achieves the interest of the Egyptian state. He pointed out that Egypt is witnessing a comprehensive and major boom by relying on the knowledge economy to build a generation that thinks and innovates and is capable of building and achieving competitiveness and leadership in implementation of Egypt's Vision 2030. The Commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces also praised the efforts of the Egyptian state in agricultural development, reclamation of desert lands, and the establishment of water desalination plants, modernizing the communications network, developing infrastructure, and investing in reducing climate change. He addressed the students, emphasizing the need to be proud of their affiliation with the Egyptian state, as it is the cradle of the heavenly religions and the country that has transmitted knowledge and science to the entire world. He pointed out that the commemoration of Sinai Liberation Day on April 25th of each year reflects that Egypt's land is a sacred land guarded by valiant heroes from the armed forces who sacrifice everything they have to defend its soil and the unity of its people. He paid tribute to the righteous souls of Egyptian martyrs, emphasizing the political leadership's commitment to commemorating their precious memory in appreciation and gratitude for their pure blood that watered the land of Egypt.
The seminar also included a lecture delivered by retired Major General Hafez Mahmoud Hassan Hafez, former Assistant Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Operations, entitled "Egypt: The Banner and the Flag." Hafez reviewed the history of the defense of Sinai, emphasizing that Sinai is unique, as God Almighty has revealed Himself to it and that it is the cradle of religions and civilizations throughout the ages. He emphasized that the stories of the liberation of Sinai are endless, and emphasized the importance of current generations being aware of the magnitude of the sacrifices and heroism in which the Egyptian army set the most wonderful example of sacrifice and redemption to reclaim the beloved Sinai. With its blood, the Egyptian army wrote an epic written in letters of light, facing all odds to achieve a victory that dazzled the world and became a symbol of pride and dignity, recounted by generations to come.
The celebration included theatrical performances and patriotic songs performed by the Alexandria University Choir. The university president and the commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces also honoured a number of families of martyrs who sacrificed their lives and pure blood for the sake of the glory, honour, and dignity of this nation. In addition, a group of students with special needs who participated in theatrical performances, were honoured.
The university president and the commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces exchanged commemorative shields, and the seminar concluded with playing the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
President of Alexandria University Issues Directives on Exam Preparedness, Support for Scholarship Students, and Reviews Participation Outcomes at the Arab Universities Conference
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, emphasized to the deans of faculties and institutes, during the University Council meeting held today, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the necessity of completing all necessary preparations for the second semester final exams, scheduled for the end of next May. He emphasized the need for faculty members, supporting staff, and the administrative staff to remain on duty throughout the exam period and to take all necessary measures and procedures to provide a safe exam environment.
The University President reviewed the results of his participation in the 57th General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities, which was held recently in Kuwait. The conference was attended by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, and a select group of representatives from the higher education and scientific research sectors in Egypt and the Arab world. The conference included ways to enhance cooperation and mutual integration in scientific and academic fields between the two sides. He highlighted the possibility of enhancing academic and cultural cooperation between Alexandria University and Arab universities in studying at Alexandria University for double degrees and in areas of mutual interest, and exploring mechanisms to leverage the available resources of both parties to consolidate this cooperation.
As part of the University's commitment to the academic future of American scholarship students at Alexandria University enrolled in scholarships provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Dr. Konsowa affirmed the University's commitment to continuing to support them and providing them with scholarships from Alexandria University to complete their studies.
• The Council approved the accreditation of the Professional Diploma Program (Sports Pharmacy Practice) at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The Council also approved the accreditation of the Professional Master's Program in Radiopharmacy, a joint degree between the Faculty of Pharmacy (Department of Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry) and the Medical Research Institute (Department of Radiology).
• The Council approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University and Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University, France, for the Student Exchange Annex, and the bilateral partnership agreement with the same university within the framework of the International Francophone Mediterranean Universities Alliance (AIME) project.
• The Council also renewed the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Cyprus. It also approved two cooperation agreements between Alexandria University and the University of Granada in Spain, one for student exchange and the other for joint scientific, academic, and research cooperation. It also approved the proposed agreement between Alexandria University and the University of Paris, France.
• The Council also approved the cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Business) and Bournemouth University, UK, and McMaster University - DeGroote School of Business, Ontario, Canada. The Council also approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Pharmacy) and the Hangzhou Institute of Medicine, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Council also approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Higher Institute of Public Health) and the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Supervision. The Council also renewed the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and the Russian National Research Nuclear University, and the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University and Al-Balqa' Applied University.
• The Council accepted the donation of medical supplies valued at EGP 2.5 million from Pharos University to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at El-Miri University Hospital, and an endoscope valued at EGP 4.2 million for the Colon and Rectal Surgery Unit in the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine. It also accepted he donation of medical supplies from One Surgical Company for Medical Supplies, valued at EGP 4.3 million, to the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases at Smouha University Hospital. The donation of an ultrasound machine valued at EGP 1.4 million from the Generation of Hope Association for Social Development to the Operations Department of the Medical Research Institute was also approved.
• The Council approved the promotion of 16 faculty members, seven to the positions of professor and nine to the positions of associate professor, the appointment of 19 lecturers, and the awarding of 133 doctoral degrees and 162 master's degrees in various scientific disciplines.
