The Community Service and Environmental Development Council at Alexandria University held its meeting on yesterday Wednesday, November 19, 2025, chaired by Dr. Afaf El-Oufi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, where a number of topics aimed at developing the environmental and societal system within the university were discussed.

The council reviewed a proposal to form a Central Committee for Occupational Safety and Health, chaired by Dr. Fahmy Charles, Emeritus Professor at the High Institute of Public Health. The committee will be responsible for establishing and implementing safety and prevention policies and procedures, assessing risks, developing safety programs, conducting periodic inspections of equipment and devices, in addition to awareness and training tasks, and setting crisis-management plans across university facilities, with the participation of faculty members, staff, and students.

The council also approved the formation of a specialized committee for disposing of obsolete stock in faculties, through an organized mechanism for write-off operations that includes technical and financial evaluation of items according to the relevant regulations, while studying the possibility of recycling some materials to support environmental sustainability efforts.

Dr. El-Oufi called for launching an initiative targeting housewives by organizing training courses at the Community Service Center to reduce the technological gap between generations and enable mothers to keep pace with modern digital developments.

The council was also briefed on the efforts of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector in the “Towards a Safe Environment” initiative, which aims to protect humans and animals and promote environmental balance on campus. Dr. Mahmoud El-Maghraby, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, presented what has been achieved so far, including vaccination and sterilization campaigns for animals, as well as joint awareness programs and seminars between the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture on safe animal handling practices.

Dr. El-Oufi highlighted the continued cooperation between the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector and the Education and Student Affairs Sector in implementing the presidential initiative “Tamkeen,” which supports students with disabilities at the university by integrating them into the university community, providing them with appropriate facilities, promoting equal opportunities, and engaging them in various student activities.

The council approved the appointment of Dr. Salah Suleiman, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Coordinator of the Community Issues course, as an external member of the Community Service and Environmental Development Council for two years.

It also approved the proposed regulations governing the organization of non-profit charity exhibitions within faculties to ensure the greatest benefit for students.

The council reviewed the report submitted by Dr. Manal Fouda, Executive Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit, regarding the activities carried out by the unit, including events, workshops, seminars, awareness films, and its participation in community convoys to provide psychological and legal support and awareness to students and local residents.

The council also discussed reports of activities and events carried out by the university’s faculties and institutes during September and October 2025, which included workshops, training courses, educational seminars, literacy classes, employment fairs, and medical convoys.
