
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received today a delegation from the Russian company Rosatom, headed by Ms. Elena Alexandrova, an official from the events sector at Atom Energy of the Future. The visit aimed to explore avenues for strengthening scientific and research cooperation between Alexandria University, the Russian company, and academic institutions in Russia. The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abdel Azim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
During the meeting, Dr. Konsowa emphasized the strong and longstanding relations between Egypt and Russia, which have been crowned by cooperation in establishing the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. He expressed Alexandria University’s aspiration to expand its collaboration with Rosatom and Russian academic institutions, particularly in the fields of nuclear engineering and clean energy. He also highlighted the university’s interest in exploring the establishment of joint academic degrees, faculty and student exchange programs, and joint research projects, in support of the university’s strategy to internationalize education, embrace the knowledge economy, and enhance the competitiveness of its academic and research programs. The President noted that the university, through its dual and joint academic degree programs with international universities, its overseas branches, and through the Alexandria University Technology Park, works to translate research outputs into applications that serve industry and the labor market.
For her part, Ms. Elena Alexandrova praised the distinguished academic and research level of Alexandria University’s students and graduates, reaffirming Rosatom’s interest in expanding cooperation with the university across various scientific disciplines, especially in engineering and quantum physics. She noted that Alexandria University is considered one of the leading universities in the Middle East and Africa.
The Russian delegation also participated in a seminar organized by the Faculty of Engineering in cooperation with Rosatom, titled “The Role of Engineering in the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy.” Held as part of the 2025 Science and Innovation Celebration, the seminar addressed the role of artificial intelligence engineering in advancing the nuclear industry, the integrative relationship between different engineering disciplines and the nuclear sector, and presented insights into the future of nuclear energy worldwide, with a focus on the promising career paths available in this field.
