The Alexandria University Council, chaired by President Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, extended its congratulations during its session held today, Tuesday, 25 November 2025, to Prof. Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, on the occasion of the President’s decision appointing him as Supervisor of the University’s International Relations Office. The Council wished him every success in his new responsibilities.

The University President emphasized the pivotal role played by the International Relations Office in supporting the University’s internationalization strategy and enhancing its global academic standing. He also stressed the importance of coordinating efforts with the representatives of international relations offices and working groups across faculties and institutes, and holding regular meetings to discuss matters related to the Office’s activities.

The President further directed faculty deans to maximize the benefits of agreements signed with prestigious international universities, particularly in establishing joint and dual academic programs, developing and upgrading research laboratory equipment at the undergraduate level to keep pace with modern scientific advancements, and expanding faculty exchange and collaborative scientific research. These efforts, he noted, would contribute to driving innovation across the University and strengthening the capabilities of the Alexandria University Technology Park to translate research outcomes into practical, innovative applications.

The Council reviewed progress made in implementing the assessment system and the electronic textbook initiative, affirming the University's ongoing commitment to developing its educational system to enhance academic efficiency and improve learning outcomes. The Council also emphasized expanding the use of electronic textbooks to provide students with more flexible and comprehensive access to academic content, as well as supporting digital transformation efforts across faculties. The Council further discussed the reinstatement of digital learning platforms as a core component in promoting interactive education and providing an integrated learning environment that enables students to access lectures, learning materials, and online assessments—thereby reinforcing the role of technology in enhancing academic performance and the quality of education and assessment at the University.

The Council confirmed the continuation of the “Towards a Safe Environment” initiative launched by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, aimed at promoting environmental safety and protecting humans and animals on campus and in surrounding areas. The University President praised the participation of the Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and their experts, as well as the support of civil society organizations and animal welfare groups. He added that these efforts contribute to reducing disease spread and ensuring safe environmental management across the University. The Council was also briefed on the pilot use of ultrasonic devices at the Faculty of Agriculture to deter stray animals, and it was decided that these devices would be deployed across all University facilities after proving effective.

The University Council extended its appreciation to the University Hospitals Sector, led by Prof. Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, for the efforts made to enhance the hospitals’ readiness and development. The President affirmed the University's commitment to upgrading the medical system and improving infrastructure and equipment in all University hospitals, ensuring the highest quality standards and supporting the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance system in collaboration with the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation. These efforts strengthen the University’s role as a key partner in advancing this major national project.

The University President emphasized the need for faculties to refer books proposed for deaccessioning to the relevant academic departments for thorough review, ensuring the preservation of valuable scientific texts and seminal academic references.

The Council approved several cooperation agreements, including: The partnership agreement between Alexandria University and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) – Canada on integrating artificial intelligence into higher education in the Middle East region., A cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Tourism and Hotels) and Istanbul University – Turkey., A cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and the Missouri University of Science and Technology – USA.,The framework agreement (Annex 3) for a dual master’s degree between the Faculty of Pharmacy at Alexandria University and its counterpart at Université de Caen – France.

The Council also approved accepting a donation of 3.5 million Egyptian pounds from Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry (MCDR) in support of the pediatric oncology unit at Borg El Arab University Hospital.

Additionally, the Council approved the promotion of 18 faculty members (8 to Professor and 10 to Associate Professor), the appointment of 20 lecturers, the awarding of 90 PhD degrees, and 190 Master’s degrees across various scientific disciplines.
