Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, witnessed the opening of the Seventh Islamic Propagation “Da’wah” Week at Alexandria University.
The event that took place in the conference hall of the Faculty of Nursing was held by the Supreme Committee for Da’wah at the Islamic Research Complex under the generous patronage of His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. It was attended by Dr. Mohamed El-Doweini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr. Mahmoud El-Hawari, Assistant Secretary-General for Da’wah and Religious Media, Dr. Hassan Yahya, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Da’wah at the Islamic Research Complex, in addition to a large number of deans and vice deans of faculties, faculty members, and students.
In his speech, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the university's commitment to hosting cultural seminars and enlightened religious figures to spread awareness among its students and build their integrated personalities. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between Alexandria University, the Islamic Research Academy, and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to emphasize the peaceful teachings of Islam, confront extremist ideas, and enhance society's ability to confront intellectual and social challenges at all levels. He highlighted the importance of intellectual security in the stability of societies and nations and in confronting deviant ideas through the combined efforts of various community institutions to instil a moderate ideology and protect the minds of young people.
In his speech, Dr. Mohamed El-Doweini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, emphasized the importance of caring for young people and their issues, as they bear the responsibility for building the future. Therefore, they must be well-prepared. He noted that security is not just about borders and food security, but intellectual and cultural security is equally important; in fact, it is one of the most dangerous issues to be aware of, given the potential disasters it can cause. Therefore, it is imperative to protect and safeguard young people from all possible sources of harm, to guarantee stability of our societies, which can only be achieved through a moderate and sound approach, far removed from extremism or complacency. He emphasized that adherence to religious teachings, identity, and traditions is the foundation and starting point for progress and prosperity.
The lecture was followed by rich discussions, significant interaction from the audience, and responses to university students' questions about the concept of intellectual security in light of rapid societal changes.
The week includes a number of seminars and intellectual meetings held over five days, including the following titles: "Intellectual Security: Its Concept and Importance," "Religious Discourse and Intellectual Security: How Can We Create an Influential Religious Discourse?", "Islamic Heritage and Its Role in Achieving Intellectual Security," "The Role of Educational Institutions in Promoting Intellectual Security: Reality and Hope," and "Social Media and Its Impact on Intellectual Security."
