Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received a delegation from the US Embassy in Cairo on Sunday, March 16, 2025, headed by Ms. Evyenia Sidereas, Deputy Chief of Mission, with the aim of enhancing opportunities for academic, scientific, and research cooperation and the knowledge economy.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant President for International Cooperation and International Branches at Alexandria University, Dr. Sameh Shehata, Supervisor of the International Relations Office at Alexandria University, Dr. Boshra Salem, Assistant President for University Ranking, and Dr. Lana Habib, Executive Director of the Arabic Language Teaching for Foreigners Centre at Alexandria University (TAFEL Centre).

In his speech, Dr. Konsowa welcomed the American delegation and presented an overview of Alexandria University, the university's strategy and vision, international partnerships, and current and future projects. He also reviewed areas of cooperation between Alexandria University and American universities and research centres, explaining that the university has cooperation agreements and joint programs with many American universities.
During the meeting, Dr. Konsowa emphasized that Alexandria University is currently witnessing a wide diversity in establishing joint programs and degrees and international branches outside Egypt, and hosting branches of international universities with high international rankings in partnership with Alexandria University on the university's campus in Borg El Arab. This comes within the framework of the university's plan to internationalize education and raise its competitiveness regionally and internationally and provide educational opportunities for students in modern scientific s disciplines and future sciences, such as artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
He added that Alexandria University is interested in developing the concept of knowledge-based industry. In this regard, the university will link its Technology Park with counterparts in American, British, and European universities that have cooperation agreements with Alexandria University. This will connect scientific research outputs to industry, transform them into economic value, establish companies based on the outputs of Alexandria University's scientific ideas and research, achieve competitiveness in economic development, and support innovation and entrepreneurship at the university.
Dr. Konsowa indicated that discussions took place with the American delegation regarding the possibility of receiving students from American universities to study for one semester or more in certain engineering specialties, study Arabic for foreigners at the TAFL Centre, or undertake practical or applied training in industry.

For her part, the US Deputy Ambassador expressed her happiness to visit Alexandria University and learn about the educational programs offered to its students, pointing to the distinguished reputation of Alexandria University internationally, the achievements it has made at the regional and international levels, and the double degrees signed by Alexandria University with high-ranked universities, which reflect the university's interest in the continuous development of its educational system at all levels. She looked forward to more cooperation and coordination of efforts with the university to cooperate in many areas of common interest, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by bringing in American experts specialized in this field or other fields to participate in scientific conferences or seminars at Alexandria University.
