A meeting of the Alexandria University Council was held today headed by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, where he thanked the deans, vice deans, faculty members, assistant staff and administrators in all faculties and institutes of the university for their full discipline in organizing the first semester final exams. Dr. Konsowa stressed the need to prepare for the second semester, which begins on February 8, 2025, and to complete maintenance work on buildings, lecture halls, laboratories and university dorms, and to follow up on cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing lecture halls in all faculties to ensure the smooth running of the educational process successfully from its first day.
Dr. Konsowa congratulated the council members on the occasion of the President's approval of the establishment of two new international branches of Alexandria University in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi, so that it has four international branches abroad after its two international branches in Chad and South Sudan, as part of the university's plan to internationalize education, enhance its regional and international position, reduce the chances of student expatriation, and attract more foreign students.
The council approved in principle the establishment of a new university hospital for children in Smouha under a partnership system with civil society institutions, pending the completion of the necessary studies and the issuance of the required approvals to start implementation. Dr. Mahmoud El-Zalabani, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, gave a presentation on the proposed hospital, which costs 1.6 billion pounds, borne by civil society institutions, businessmen and individuals, to provide free service at the highest level to the people of Alexandria. The new hospital includes intensive care units for newborns, reception, emergency and outpatient clinics.
• The council approved taking the necessary measures to establish the Alexandria University Company for Sports Services and Consultations (AUSSC).
• The Council honoured the faculties and institutes that obtained institutional accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education during the academic year 2023/2024, namely the Faculty of Physical Education for Girls, the Higher Institute of Public Health, the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research, and the Institute of Medical Research, in addition to the faculties that obtained programmatic accreditation, namely the Faculty of Engineering (2 programs), the Faculty of Science (2 programs), and the Faculty of Agriculture (2 programs).
• The Council approved exempting students with special needs and international students from the graduation requirement "Literacy Project".
• The Council also approved allocating six scholarships for diploma students at the Faculty of Arts during the spring semester of 2025, with a 50% reduction in credit hours fees.
• The Council approved obtaining 250 scholarships for new students applying to study postgraduate diplomas at all levels at the Faculty of Education during the spring semester of 2025, with a 50% reduction in the value of credit hours fees.
• The Council approved the donations presented by El-Gharabli Engineering and Contracting Company to the Cardiac Catheterization Unit at the main university hospital and Smouha University Hospital amounting to 1.5 million Egyptian pounds, the donation presented by One Surgical Company to the Cardiovascular Diseases Department amounting to of 11 million pounds, the donation presented by Pharos University to the intensive care unit at the new university hospital with a value of 3 million pounds, the donation presented by Alexandria Fertilizers Company and the Generation of Hope Association for Social Development to the sterilization unit at Shatby Hospital amounting to one million pounds, and the donations presented by the Friends of Heart Patients Association for the benefit of heart and vascular patients at the main university hospital in the amount of one million and 287 thousand pounds.
• The Council approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and Namangan Textile Institute - Uzbekistan, the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University and Kent State University in the United States of America, the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Education) and Albert Jacquard Higher Institute in Namur, Belgium, the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Early Childhood Education) and the Directorate of Health Affairs in Alexandria, and the Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University and King Faisal University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• The Council also approved the promotion of 34 faculty members, 17 to the position of professor, 17 to the position of associate professor, the appointment of 24 lecturers, and the granting of 83 doctoral degrees and 112 master's degrees in various scientific disciplines.
