Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, reviewed during the University Council meeting in its session held today, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, what was presented during the workshop held on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, hosted by Alexandria University last Saturday, on investment in higher education and scientific research
Dr. Konsowa explained the university's experience in supporting these efforts by improving the quality of the educational and research process at the university and providing special modern and advanced study programs that keep pace with the requirements of the local, regional and international labour market. He added that the university’s development efforts contribute to attracting students to join the university, by providing dual and joint programs and degrees in cooperation with major prestigious universities. He highlighted the new projects such as the international branch of the university under construction in New Smouha, Alexandria International University, and the 5 branches of international universities on the university's land in Borg El Arab, starting with the branch of the University of Tampere in Finland, which will be followed by four other international branches in Borg El Arab, in addition to the three international branches outside Egypt in South Sudan and Chad, and the Malaysian branch in the Far East, which will contribute to attracting more foreign students to study at Alexandria University and its branches. Dr. Konsowa pointed to the cooperation and integration with various academic, research and industrial institutions in line with achieving the goals of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Egypt's Vision 2030.
The University President stressed that the deans of the faculties should take the necessary measures to prepare for the winter season in all faculties and units of the university, and to emphasize the completion of all arrangements for the mid-term exams of the first semester.
The Council honoured both Professor Dr. Ibrahim Abdelhadi, Associate Professor of Psychology at the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University, and Dr. Maha Louay Hatem, Lecturer at the Department of Libraries, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, for winning first place - Best Research Category - in the 24th session of the award organized by the Sharjah Public Libraries Administration affiliated with the Authority under the slogan "Libraries to Empower Cultural and Creative Industries". The winning research was entitled: "A Proposed Strategic Approach to Activate the Role of Public Libraries in Enabling the Concept of Green Sustainability and Promoting Sustainable Behaviour among Beneficiaries: Bibliotheca Alexandrina as a Model".
As part of the university's keenness to care for its students with disabilities, the council approved the launch of various activities next week to integrate students with disabilities with their peers, with the participation of universities in the northern region and including various cultural, artistic, social and sports activities.
The council approved the scientific and research cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and the National Water Research Centre, and its institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Water Resources, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and Al-Balqa Applied University in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the framework cooperation agreement between Alexandria University and Poitiers University in France.
The council approved the donation submitted by Mrs. Hoda Saad Youssef to the university students' hospital, consisting of two devices to operate the regular X-ray machine, worth 1.2 million Egyptian pounds, and the donations submitted to the Medical Research Institute Hospital from each of the Mohamed Ragab Foundation for Social Development, consisting of surgical endoscope devices worth 1.9 million Egyptian pounds, and from Mr. Awad bin Issa Ahmed Saleh, which are medical devices worth 1.2 million Egyptian pounds.
The Council approved the promotion of 35 faculty members, 16 to the position of professor, 19 to the position of associate professor, the appointment of 26 lecturers, and the granting of 126 doctoral degrees and 248 master’s degrees in various academic disciplines.
