The Alexandria University Council, headed by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, during its meeting on Tuesday the 26th of December 2023, extended its sincere heartfelt congratulations to Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, for winning a new presidential term, and renewing the confidence of the people of Egypt in His Excellency, to support the process of construction and development.
The University President also praised the active participation of all Alexandria University employees, casting their votes in the 2024 presidential elections, as it is a national duty to preserve their gains and constitutional rights, and to preserve security and stability, in a civilized appearance that reflects the values of Alexandria University. Dr. Konsowa stressed that progress and development require determination and perseverance. He also emphasized to faculty deans the importance of continuous communication with students to prepare them as future leaders, developing the spirit and values of loyalty and belonging in them, as they are an integral part of society and the whole future.
As part of the university’s efforts to develop laboratories and strengthen their infrastructure for the research and educational process, the university president explained that the committee that was formed for this purpose will tour all faculties to review and evaluate laboratories and equipment and submit reports on their efficiency, in preparation for carrying out maintenance or replacement work and purchasing new equipment.
The University President also reviewed the developments in establishing the international branch of Alexandria University in cooperation with international universities on the university’s grounds in Borg El Arab suburb of Alexandria.
The Council agreed to update the JCR 2021 (SCIE and SSCI) list approved by the University Council, which contains 13,785 journals distributed over 299 specializations, to be the JCR 2022 list (SCIE and SSCI and AHCI), which was recently issued and contains 22,177 journals distributed over 254 specializations, for the benefit of researchers, so that it will be implemented as of January 1, 2024.
The Council approved the allocation of 250 scholarships at a discount of 50% of the value of the credit hour for students applying to graduate programs and degrees at the Faculty of Education during the spring of 2024 for the academic year 2023/2024.
The University President congratulated the university’s administrative staff on the continued implementation of the international standard for ISO 9001/2015 within the university’s various departments, after the audit visit by the GIC team that grants the various ISO certificates. It is worth mentioning that the ISO certificates were granted to the university last year 2022 and continue for three years with annual follow-up. Dr. Konsowa offered thanks to everyone who participated in this achievement, raising the performance level within all university departments, and developing it over the last year, honourably representing the university.
The Council honoured Dr. Mohamed Bahey El-Din, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Dr. Ahmed Abdelfattah, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture in Saba Pasha, for the end of their deanship term and their outstanding performance during their tenure of the two faculties, wishing them continued success and prosperity.
The Council approved the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies in Uzbekistan, the cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Education) and the Fujairah Scientific Club in the United Arab Emirates, the cooperation protocol between Alexandria University (Faculty of Dentistry) and the Central Administration of Dentistry at the Ministry of Health and Population, the memorandum of understanding between Alexandria University and the University of Essex in the United Kingdom, the cooperation agreement between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and the University of Essex (School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering in Essex), and the cooperation protocol between the Alexandria University (Faculty of Arts) and the American University of Buffalo in the field of humanities and social sciences.
The Council accepted the donation submitted by the Arab Petroleum Pipeline Company (SUMED) in the amount of 1.25 million Egyptian pounds to purchase a platelet separator device for the Chest Diseases Department at the Medical Research Institute.
The Council approved the promotion of 17 faculty members to the position of professor and 10 to the position of associate professor, the appointment of 13 lecturers, and the granting of 60 doctoral degrees and 103 master’s degrees in various scientific discplines.
