The Graduate Studies and Research Council at Alexandria University convened on Tuesday morning, August 18, 2026, chaired by Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Acting Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, to discuss mechanisms for developing the research system and advancing digital transformation (Digitalization).

Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy emphasized the importance of digital transformation in developing academic and administrative workflows, noting that digitizing document procedures is one of the University’s strategic objectives. This will contribute to the gradual elimination of traditional paper-based transactions and their replacement with secure, fast, and traceable digital documents, supporting Alexandria University’s vision of strengthening its position and advancing it toward the ranks of first-tier global universities (Tier 1).

She also affirmed the University’s commitment to advancing graduate studies and scientific research by updating academic programs and study regulations in line with the latest international standards and the requirements of local and regional labor markets, promoting international scientific publishing, and encouraging researchers and students to produce high-quality scientific research and publish it in international scientific journals and periodicals.

She stressed the importance of linking scientific research to community needs and directing research and academic theses toward developing practical and applicable solutions to the challenges facing the industrial and environmental sectors at both the local and national levels.

Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy congratulated the Faculty of Science on the inclusion of its journal, Journal of Fractional Calculus and Applications (JFCA), in the Scopus database. She emphasized that this achievement reflects the quality of the scientific content of Alexandria University’s journals, enhances their international presence, and supports the global dissemination of the University’s research output.

She also directed the Vice Deans of Alexandria University’s faculties and institutes to prepare a comprehensive Capacity Building Study, which would contribute to investing in human resources, enhancing the capabilities of university personnel, supporting efforts to improve the University’s academic rankings, advancing scientific research, and improving the quality of administrative and educational services.

Dr. Boshra Salem presented an assessment of Alexandria University’s standing in global university rankings to evaluate its current position and identify future development pathways. She reviewed the University’s position in the leading international rankings and the key criteria that directly influence its global standing, including international publication rates, research citation rates, academic and employer reputation, thereby helping identify areas for improvement and enhance the University’s international competitiveness.
