
Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, received H.E. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, Ambassador of Greece to Egypt, at the University's headquarters to discuss ways to strengthen academic and research cooperation between Alexandria University and Greek universities.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Supervisor of the International Relations Office; Dr. Jehan Gawfel, Assistant President for the Internationalization of Education and International Branch Campuses; Dr. Hanan El-Gewaily, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; and Dr. Heba Saad, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels.
Discussions focused on several areas of mutual cooperation, including the activation of dual-degree programs, the launch of joint academic degrees between Alexandria University and leading Greek universities, and the expansion of student exchange programs. The meeting also explored cooperation between the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Alexandria University and the Greek Consulate in Alexandria to promote the cultural heritage of the Greek community in the city.
The two sides also reviewed the executive steps for establishing Alexandria University's new branch in Greece. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen Egypt's academic presence in the Mediterranean region and enhance educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries. The branch is expected to offer distinguished academic programs that meet the aspirations of students in both countries while opening new horizons for joint academic and research collaboration.
During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim emphasized the deep-rooted historical, geographical, and strategic ties between Egypt and Greece. He noted that Alexandria University is committed to expanding its international partnerships and strengthening cooperation with Greek higher education institutions, building on the strong cultural and social bonds between the Egyptian and Greek peoples, particularly in Alexandria, a city renowned as a crossroads of civilizations.
For his part, Ambassador Nikolaos Papageorgiou expressed his pleasure at visiting Alexandria University, praising its distinguished academic reputation at the national, regional, and international levels. He reaffirmed Greece's commitment to expanding scientific, research, and student exchange cooperation with Egyptian academic institutions, especially Alexandria University, which shares longstanding historical and cultural ties with Greece. He also commended the University's forward-looking vision and its ability to keep pace with global academic developments, highlighting their role in further strengthening academic and research partnerships between the two sides.
