The Graduate Studies and Research Council at Alexandria University convened on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, under the chairmanship of Prof. Hisham Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, to discuss a number of strategic initiatives aimed at advancing the University's graduate studies and research system and strengthening its regional and international standing.

The Council reviewed the bibliometric indicators of the University's scientific journals indexed in international databases as part of its ongoing assessment of journal performance and efforts to enhance their compliance with international publishing standards. These efforts aim to improve the quality of scientific publishing and elevate the University's research output.

The Council also discussed a comprehensive proposal for transforming Alexandria University into a globally recognized smart university, highlighting the pivotal role of the Graduate Studies and Research Sector in driving digital transformation, improving the quality of published research, increasing international publications in high-impact journals, and enhancing the University's research ranking indicators.

The Council emphasized the importance of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship by translating research outcomes into practical applications and marketable products, establishing business incubators and accelerators to support researchers and entrepreneurs, thereby strengthening the University's contribution to society and the knowledge-based economy. It also reviewed proposed policies to reinforce academic integrity and research ethics, combat plagiarism, and expand training and awareness programs in line with international best practices.

As part of keeping pace with technological advancements, the Council discussed mechanisms for integrating artificial intelligence into scientific research, including AI-powered data analysis, the development of intelligent research platforms, and support for digital and open laboratories, all of which are expected to enhance research efficiency and promote innovation.

The Council further reviewed several initiatives to support the University's transition into a smart digital institution. These include the establishment of an integrated smart platform for graduate studies, the development of an electronic thesis management system, the creation of an institutional open-access research repository, the establishment of a Center for Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research, providing AI tool licenses for researchers in cooperation with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, launching an institutional research performance measurement platform, and developing an AI-assisted platform for scientific translation and academic writing.

The Council approved the Master's Degree Certificate template for the International Relations Program, offered jointly by Alexandria University, the French University in Egypt, Senghor University, and the Grenoble Institute of Political Studies at Université Grenoble Alpes, further supporting international academic cooperation and joint educational programs.

The Council also discussed regulating the number of supervisors assigned to doctoral dissertations across the University's faculties and institutes to ensure the highest standards of academic supervision.

Additionally, the Council approved amendments proposed by the Physical Education Sector Committee regarding the Faculty's postgraduate regulations, subject to completing observations related to several professional diploma programs, including Sports Injuries and Physical Rehabilitation, Health Clubs, Sports Recovery, Posture, Physical and Sports Rehabilitation for Older Adults, Sports Nutrition, and Sports Massage.
