The Community Service and Environmental Development Council at Alexandria University held its meeting at the University Administration's Grand Meeting Hall, chaired by Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

During the meeting, the council discussed several key issues related to infrastructure development, energy conservation, digital transformation, and promoting environmental sustainability across the university.

During the meeting, Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy emphasized the importance of continuous follow-up and the timely completion of all maintenance work across the university's faculties. She also stressed the need to enhance safety measures for all facilities and examination halls through occupational safety and health teams, ensuring the smooth conduct of examinations in a secure and well-organized environment.

At the beginning of the meeting, the council extended its congratulations to Dr. Islam Mohamed Salem on his appointment as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs.

The council also reviewed a report from the Faculty of Engineering regarding its energy conservation plan.

Dr. Wael El-Meghellani, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, stated that solar cells are currently being installed in ten university buildings in accordance with directives from the Supreme Council of Universities and in cooperation with the German Reconstruction Bank, as part of the state's orientation toward clean energy transformation.

The council was further informed of a communication from the Supreme Council of Universities regarding procedures for rationalizing fuel consumption for university vehicles, aiming to reduce fuel usage for government vehicles by up to 30%.

Additionally, the council approved the establishment of an electronic platform for Alexandria University's Project Management Unit, designed to support researchers and monitor research project phases from submission through completion.

Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy also reviewed the implementation stages of the university's comprehensive digital transformation plan and the automation of administrative and educational services, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and a number of specialists in digital transformation, with the aim of improving services and streamlining procedures within the university.

Dr. Sameh Riyad, Head of the Environmental Affairs Agency for Alexandria and West Delta, presented the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, which aims to support innovative environmental projects and connect them with financing mechanisms and investment opportunities. He also outlined the categories of participation and evaluation criteria, which include environmental impact, technological aspects, and economic and social feasibility.

The council also discussed the final report submitted by the Faculty of Pharmacy regarding its participation in the Green Cycle Initiative, which aims to transform the faculty into an environmentally friendly institution as part of broader efforts to promote sustainability concepts across the university.

Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy further emphasized the importance of strengthening psychological support services for university members and their families through the "Ensat" digital platform, which provides counseling sessions, awareness activities, and educational programs to support mental health within the university community and improve academic and professional performance.

The meeting concluded with a review of various activities, events, charity exhibitions, and community outreach convoys organized by the university's faculties and institutes during May 2026.
