As part of Alexandria University’s efforts to transform into an environmentally friendly green university, the Community Service and Environmental Development Council, during its meeting held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, chaired by Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, approved the establishment of the Alexandria University Sustainability Office. This office aims to develop comprehensive environmental policies and strategies that support the transition toward sustainability and promote environmental awareness within the university community, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals through the expansion of renewable energy use and the adoption of clean technologies.

The council also approved the establishment of a Renewable Energy Unit

within the university, in cooperation with the German Development Bank (KfW), with the aim of rationalizing energy consumption and maximizing the use of clean energy sources across university buildings.

In support of student innovation, the council decided to extend the application deadline for the Smart Waste Management competition due to the high level of student participation, with many innovative ideas and projects submitted in the field of waste management and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy directed faculty vice deans to prepare comprehensive reports documenting sector activities within each faculty and to evaluate the extent to which strategic objectives have been achieved during the current academic year.

The council also noted the readiness of Alexandria University laboratories to apply for accreditation, which will enhance the quality of research outputs and elevate the university’s standing at both local and international levels.

The Vice President expressed her appreciation to faculty vice deans, praising their active participation in implementing Ramadan initiatives, which included organizing community outreach activities, providing humanitarian assistance, and offering iftar meals—reflecting the university’s role in supporting social solidarity within the Alexandria community.

The council also extended its congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Mother’s Day, and International Women’s Day in March.

Additionally, the council reviewed several reports on activities, awareness seminars, community initiatives, service convoys, and workshops carried out by the university’s faculties and institutes during February and March 2026.
