The Council of Alexandria University held its meeting on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of the University. The Council began its session by extending its sincere congratulations to Abdelaziz Konsowa on the issuance of the political leadership’s decision appointing him Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Council wished him continued success in his new role, praising his distinguished efforts during his tenure as President of the University and the significant progress achieved across academic and research domains, which strengthened Alexandria University’s standing locally, regionally, and internationally.

The Council also extended its congratulations to Walid Abdel Azim on assuming his duties as Governor of the Red Sea, expressing their best wishes for continued success in serving the nation.

Dr. Abdel Hakim reviewed the fruitful outcomes achieved through the University’s participation in the Egyptian-French Scientific and Academic Cooperation Day held in Paris earlier this month. He noted that the agreements signed with CY Cergy Paris Université, Université de Caen Normandie, and Vatel represent a qualitative addition to the University’s international academic cooperation efforts. These agreements open new horizons for Alexandria University students to obtain dual degrees and benefit from training and qualification opportunities in line with the latest global educational systems.

The Council approved granting an exceptional opportunity for one academic semester (Spring 2026) during the 2025/2026 academic year to a number of students across various faculties, reaffirming the University’s commitment to equal opportunity and consideration of both humanitarian and academic dimensions.

The Council also approved several international cooperation agreements, including a cooperation agreement with Universidade Estadual de Campinas, an academic cooperation agreement with Chandigarh University, and a cooperation agreement with University of Sousse. In addition, a framework agreement for academic cooperation and an agreement on international cooperation in student exchange and mobility of faculty members and administrative staff were signed with CY Cergy Paris Université. These steps come within the framework of the University’s strategy to strengthen academic and research partnerships and expand international collaboration.

In support of international research cooperation, the Council approved the University’s participation in the Africa-Uni-Net, the Austrian-African research network, contributing to the enhancement of research partnerships and capacity building with African and European universities and institutions.

The Council also reviewed the decision to transfer the full administrative affiliation of the University Students’ Hospital and its affiliated medical units from the University Hospitals Sector to the Education Sector, while ensuring that all necessary regulatory, financial, and administrative procedures are taken in this regard.

Furthermore, the Council approved the promotion of 15 faculty members—6 to the rank of Professor and 9 to Associate Professor—alongside the appointment of 15 Lecturers. The Council also granted 77 doctoral degrees and 220 master’s degrees across various academic disciplines.
