Within the framework of strengthening academic and research collaboration with prestigious international institutions, Alexandria University received a delegation of Chinese experts from Sichuan University and West China Hospital, specializing in liver surgery and liver transplantation. The visit took place at the university headquarters to explore avenues of joint cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and to enhance the exchange of expertise in specialized medical fields, particularly advanced surgeries and modern technological applications.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and a number of professors of liver surgery and organ transplantation at the Faculty of Medicine. The Chinese delegation included Dr. Hong Wu, Vice President of Sichuan University and Head of the Surgical Team, along with a distinguished group of experts in liver surgery, transplantation, and anesthesia from Sichuan University and West China Hospital.

During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim emphasized Alexandria University’s commitment to engaging with distinguished international experiences and benefiting from global expertise to advance its educational and research systems, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare services and medical education for the benefit of patients. He noted that cooperation with the Chinese side represents an important step toward establishing sustainable strategic partnerships, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence applications in medicine, specialized practical training, hosting experts to train surgeons, supporting medical teams and nursing staff, as well as sending faculty members abroad for training in the latest surgical techniques.

Dr. Tamer Abdallah explained that the cooperation includes organizing joint workshops on advanced techniques in liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic surgeries, as well as liver transplantation, in addition to discussing mechanisms for introducing robotic surgery and performing remote operations. He also pointed out that the Chinese experts performed several surgical procedures at Al-Mowasat University Hospital using three-dimensional laparoscopic technology to treat liver tumors, applying the ICG dye technique for the first time in Egypt, marking a significant advancement in the level of surgical services provided.

The Chinese delegation expressed their appreciation for the warm reception, praising the distinguished academic and research standing of the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University, and affirming their aspiration to build an effective partnership that includes conducting joint surgeries and implementing specialized training programs and workshops, thereby strengthening academic and research cooperation between both sides in the coming phase.

It is worth noting that Sichuan University and West China Hospital are among the leading academic and medical institutions in China in the fields of medical education, scientific research, and international publication, enjoying a prestigious global reputation in advanced surgical specialties and liver transplantation.
