
Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Dawood, Consul General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Alexandria, on Sunday, marking his first official visit to the university since taking up his new position.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hisham Said, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Vice President for Education and Students Affairs, Dr. Afaf Al-Awfi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Supervisor of the University’s International Relations Office, Dr. Tamer Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Walid Abdel Azim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Ayman Shteiwi, Dean of the Faculty of Business.
In his speech, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa welcomed the Consul General of Saudi Arabia and congratulated him on his new role, wishing him success in fulfilling his duties. He emphasized the deep and strong ties between Alexandria University and academic institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and noted the university's commitment to providing full support and care to Saudi students studying in various faculties of the university.
The President of the University reviewed Alexandria University’s strategy to internationalize education and enhance its competitiveness both regionally and globally, by providing outstanding educational opportunities in modern scientific fields and future sciences. This includes implementing joint and dual degree programs with prestigious international universities with high rankings, as well as expanding the university’s branches outside Egypt and hosting branches of distinguished international universities at Alexandria University in Borg El Arab. He also highlighted the importance of establishing a branch of Alexandria University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is planned to offer outstanding educational programs according to international standards, with double and joint degrees between Alexandria University and renowned global universities.
Additionally, he referred to the concept of the knowledge economy through the establishment of the Alexandria University Technology Park and supporting young researchers by linking research outcomes with industry, thus contributing to transforming knowledge into economic value. He also emphasized the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative industries within the university.
For his part, the Consul General of Saudi Arabia in Alexandria expressed his happiness with the visit to Alexandria University, affirming his pride in the university's rich academic history and its prestigious scientific status at both the regional and international levels. He praised the notable development in the university’s educational and research system and the efforts being made to enhance the quality of the educational process, support innovation, and link scientific research to the needs of society and the labor market. He also expressed his appreciation for the care and attention given to Saudi students studying at the university, commending the supportive educational environment the university provides to its international students.
