Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, inaugurated today, Monday, December 22, 2025, the Adult Intensive Care Unit at El-Mowasat University Hospital, with a capacity of eight fully equipped beds, including an isolation room, at an approximate cost of EGP 13 million. This step reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to developing its medical system and enhancing the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Affaf El-Oufy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Tamer Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Essam Badawy, Executive Director of University Hospitals; Dr. Ahmed Shereen, Director of El-Mowasat Hospital; Mr. Mohamed Amr Sayed Shaker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of “Sehatna” Foundation for Development; Mr. Ahmed Mahmoud Attia, Head of the Social Solidarity Sector at Nasser Social Bank; along with a number of faculty members, officials from the University Hospitals Administration, and representatives of civil society.

In his speech, Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa expressed his appreciation for the tangible achievements that contributed to the inauguration of the Adult Intensive Care Unit, praising the advanced medical equipment and the distinguished therapeutic services the unit will provide to patients. He affirmed that the opening of the unit comes within the framework of Alexandria University’s comprehensive plan to develop its medical facilities, ensuring the provision of integrated healthcare services befitting the Egyptian citizen, through effective partnerships with civil society institutions and business leaders.

The University President pointed out that Alexandria University is working to develop its university hospitals to be fully prepared to join the Comprehensive Health Insurance System and to enhance their capacity to deliver high-quality and sustainable medical services. This will be achieved through the establishment of specialized centers of excellence that serve as a model for integrating modern infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, and training and qualification programs for medical staff.

He also directed the necessity of attracting international experts and distinguished professors in rare medical specialties to transfer their expertise to the University, contributing to raising the efficiency of various medical teams. He emphasized the University’s commitment to providing all necessary laboratory and technical capabilities to enable these experts to perform their scientific and professional roles to the fullest extent. Dr. Konsowa further clarified that developing emergency departments in university hospitals is a top priority to ensure the highest levels of quality and safety in healthcare services provided to citizens. In conclusion, he commended the significant efforts exerted by the medical and administrative teams at the university hospitals, praising their distinguished professional performance and humane service to patients.

For his part, Dr. Tamer Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the continuous support provided by the University administration, headed by Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, to the university hospitals sector and the medical education system, enabling them to fulfill their health, educational, and professional roles in the best possible manner. He affirmed that the inauguration of the Adult Intensive Care Unit at El-Mowasat Hospital represents a successful model of healthcare integration, resulting from constructive cooperation between Alexandria University, “Sehatna” Foundation for Development, and Nasser Social Bank. He expressed his hope that this cooperation would serve as a nucleus for broader partnerships in the future, in line with global standards for healthcare delivery.

Mr. Mohamed Amr Sayed Shaker expressed his pride in being present at Alexandria University, which hosts distinguished medical and scientific competencies. He explained that the unit includes eight adult intensive care beds and aims to serve approximately 600 patients annually. He noted that “Sehatna” Foundation for Development works to reduce waiting lists and alleviate patients’ suffering, having successfully provided medical services to nearly three million patients since its establishment in 2018, and is striving to treat 10 million patients by 2030.

In the same context, Mr. Ahmed Mahmoud Attia affirmed that Nasser Social Bank is keen to cooperate with entities that contribute to achieving real and sustainable development, explaining that development is inseparable from the health and education sectors. From this standpoint came the cooperation with Alexandria University Hospitals, given their pioneering role and prominent contributions in serving Egyptian society. He stressed that the social responsibility of Nasser Social Bank aims to ensure that support reaches those who deserve it and to achieve tangible developmental impact.
