
The first meeting of the Higher Council for Students with Disabilities was held today, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, with the attendance of Dr. Afaf Al-Oufi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Mona Al-Moataz Bellah, Head of the Northern Sector of the Central “Tamkeen” Unit, along with the Deans of the Faculties of Arts, Law, and Medicine, the Executive Director of the Taha Hussein Center for Students with Disabilities, and the Director of the Measurement and Evaluation Center.

During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hakim affirmed the leadership of Alexandria University, under the presidency of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, in supporting and empowering students with disabilities. He highlighted the university’s active participation in the presidential initiative “Tamkeen,” which aims to integrate students with disabilities into Egyptian universities and ensure a fair and inclusive educational environment. This is achieved by enhancing their rights, providing equal opportunities in academics and student activities, and offering awareness campaigns, interactive programs, and various support services.
The Vice President praised the pivotal role of the Taha Hussein Center in providing academic, administrative, social, and psychological support to students with disabilities. He emphasized that the university’s strategy focuses on offering suitable e-learning platforms, promoting a culture of inclusion among all students, ensuring coordination between faculties and specialized centers, and strengthening healthcare and social support in collaboration with the university’s psychological support centers.

For her part, Dr. Afaf Al-Oufi stressed that empowering students with disabilities academically and socially is one of the university’s top priorities, as it strives to become a leading model in providing comprehensive and integrated services.
During the meeting, the strategic plan of the Taha Hussein Center for Students with Disabilities was approved. The plan focuses on empowering students academically through educational standards, assessment, and “Techno-Academia” by providing technology-based electronic examination platforms, promoting genuine inclusion, and enhancing cooperation between all faculties, centers, and units of the university. It also includes mechanisms for health empowerment, such as allocating weekly time slots at the university’s medical units to ensure the best healthcare services for students with disabilities.
The meeting also included a presentation by Dr. Alaa Gaame’, Executive Director of the Taha Hussein Center, titled “Achievements of the Taha Hussein Center’s Action Plan for the Academic Year 2025–2026”, along with a technical presentation by Dr. Amira Adel, Deputy Executive Director of the Engineering Center, on “The Structural Status of the Taha Hussein Center and Ongoing Maintenance and Electrical Works.” In addition, Dr. Mona Al-Moataz Bellah delivered an introductory speech on the role of the Central “Tamkeen” Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education.
