Alexandria University Council held its regular meeting on Monday morning, September 29, 2025, chaired by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University.

At the outset of the meeting, the Council extended congratulations to those who have received Presidential decrees to assume leadership positions at the University:

Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdelhakim, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, on his appointment as Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs.

Dr. Afaf Khamees El-Ofy, Professor of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Faculty of Engineering, on her appointment as Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Dr. Tamer Abdallah Helmy, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development, on his appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Hanan Hosny El-Sherbini, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Nursing for Education and Student Affairs, on her appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Nursing.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa also congratulated the Deans of the faculties on the occasion of the start of the 2025/2026 academic year, praising the great efforts made by the faculty administrations in welcoming students and ensuring intensive preparations for a successful start of the academic year. He stressed that these efforts reflect the spirit of cooperation and institutional work within the university, and embody the commitment of faculties to providing a supportive educational and academic environment for both students and staff, contributing to the fulfillment of the University’s mission and strategic goals.

Dr. Konsowa further emphasized that Alexandria University is moving confidently in implementing its ambitious plan to upgrade its infrastructure and enhance its educational system, by utilizing its financial surplus and self-resources to rehabilitate and develop undergraduate laboratories, equip lecture halls and classrooms with the latest technologies, and modernize its technological infrastructure in line with international standards. He also highlighted the University’s attention to developing student services and campus activities to build a comprehensive academic and research environment. In addition, the University places special focus on restoring and maintaining its heritage buildings, preserving their distinctive character that reflects the University’s long-standing history and academic stature. These efforts come within a comprehensive vision aimed at building an integrated educational system that supports scientific research and innovation, providing a modern academic environment for students and faculty alike, thereby enhancing the University’s regional and international competitiveness.

The University’s International Relations Office presented the outcomes of Alexandria University’s participation in the 35th European Association for International Education (EAIE 2025) Annual Conference, held in Gothenburg, Sweden. These included opening new communication channels with several European universities, discussing mechanisms for signing academic and research cooperation agreements, as well as showcasing the University’s programs, strategic projects, and future plans aimed at strengthening its position on the global higher education map. Discussions also covered opportunities for cooperation with leading international universities in areas such as joint and dual degree programs, establishing international branches, and advancing collaboration in research and innovation, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for the internationalization of education.

The Council approved the addition of new memberships from inside and outside the University to the faculties’ councils for the current academic year.

The Council also approved a wide range of cooperation agreements, including two agreements with the University of Granada in Spain (one for student exchange and another for scientific, academic, and research cooperation), an academic cooperation agreement with Tohoku University in Japan, a Memorandum of Understanding between Alexandria University (Faculty of Engineering) and Penn State Harrisburg in Pennsylvania, USA, cooperation agreements with Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra and the International University of Rabat in Morocco, an agreement with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China to provide volunteers for teaching the Chinese language at the Faculty of Arts, a cooperation agreement between Alexandria University’s Center for Maritime Archaeology and Underwater Cultural Heritage (Faculty of Arts) and the Honor Frost Foundation for Maritime Archaeology in London, two MoUs between the Faculty of Engineering and Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale in France regarding student exchange for joint degree programs, student hosting, and faculty exchange, as well as an MoU between the Faculty of Agriculture (Saba Pasha) and Nanjing Agricultural University in China.

The Council also approved the acceptance of a donation from One Surgical Company worth EGP 4.3 million, consisting of medical supplies for cardiovascular patients at Smouha University Hospital, and, in principle, the acceptance of a donation from the Pharaoh Gold Mines Company to the Mineral Resources Laboratory, Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, worth EGP 7 million, consisting of an advanced device for scientific research purposes.

Furthermore, the Council approved the promotion of 41 faculty members (16 to the rank of Professor and 25 to Associate Professor), the appointment of 17 lecturers, as well as the awarding of 68 PhD degrees and 153 Master’s degrees in various scientific disciplines.
