Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, accompanied Dr. Cyril Clark, Executive Vice President and Academic Director of Virginia Tech University, and his accompanying delegation, during their visit to the Centres of Excellence at the Faculty of Engineering, in the presence of Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Dean of the Faculty, the Vice Deans of the Faculty, and the Directors of the Centres of Excellence.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the Centres of Excellence for Water, which is one of the outcomes of the Centre of Excellence for Water project funded by the United States Agency for Development (USAID) in partnership with the American University and Egyptian and American universities. It works as a meeting point between researchers and private sector institutions to find practical solutions to challenges related to water resources, provide sanitation and irrigation services, design courses and provide scholarships for Egyptians seeking to study in fields related to water issues. The delegation viewed laboratory equipment and learned about the role of the centre in providing research and applied studies in the field of water. The two sides discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of membrane studies and research, to contribute to addressing the challenges facing the water sector in Egypt.
The delegation also inspected the Virginia Building laboratories at the Faculty of Engineering, and the two sides discussed ways of academic research cooperation in scientific and research fields of common interest in general, and engineering, technology and computer science fields in particular, as well as cooperation in projects related to sustainability and the green economy, and the possibility of cooperation in linking knowledge-based technologies and techniques between the academic community and industry.
The delegation also inspected the Smart CI Research Excellence Centre, which includes the Internet of Things laboratory, the Nanotechnology laboratory and high-speed computer laboratories, to learn about the activities of these laboratories and their research and technical capabilities.
