
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine organized, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the 9th Scientific Conference of the Surgery Department, titled:“Cardiology in Pet Animals"
The event was attended by Dr. Mahmoud El-Maghraby, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Mahmoud El-Kamar, Head of the Surgery Department and Conference Chair, along with current and former deans and vice-deans of the faculty, department heads, a host of faculty members and assistants, as well as a large number of students and alumni.

In his speech, Dr. Mahmoud El-Maghraby emphasized that the conference is a distinguished scientific event and has become a hallmark within the academic and student activities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He noted its continuity up to its ninth edition and its resilience in the face of organizational and economic challenges, only interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting the Surgery Department’s commitment to the mission of science, the sustainability of contributions, and the importance of supporting and encouraging students.
The Dean expressed his gratitude to the faculty members, experts, and participating speakers for their scientific and practical contributions, which enrich students’ experience and provide the conference with added value beyond the standard curriculum. He added that the conference serves as a pivotal tool in achieving the goals of the faculty’s educational programs, acting as a platform that supports student participation and the development of general knowledge and skills. Dr. El-Maghraby also pointed out that the global QS ranking at the end of 2024 placed the faculty first among veterinary faculties in Egypt, and first in Africa alongside the University of Pretoria and Cairo University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He affirmed that this achievement crowns 50 years of dedication, academic excellence, and research achievements of the faculty within Alexandria University.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohamed Nasir, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, explained that the conference represents an important scientific opportunity for students to benefit from specialized discussion sessions. He confirmed its success in integrating both scientific and practical aspects in one of the fast-evolving fields. He added that the conference contributes to transferring the latest developments in cardiology to veterinary medicine, enhancing veterinarians’ abilities to manage various cardiac cases.
In the same context, Dr. Mahmoud El-Kamar, Conference Chair, emphasized that the event primarily aims to connect students and veterinarians with the latest research and technological developments in diagnosing heart diseases, with a particular focus on echocardiography. He noted that the conference concentrated on managing emergency cardiac cases, the latest drug protocols, and interventional therapies, contributing to improving surgeons’ efficiency, reducing the risks of cardiac surgeries, enhancing the quality of life of pet animals, and providing advanced veterinary care.
