
As part of Alexandria University’s commitment to fostering national awareness among its students, and under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces organized an awareness seminar this morning, Tuesday, November 12, 2025, at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, entitled “How Egypt Faces National Security Challenges.” The seminar was delivered by Major General Bahgat Mohamed Farid, former Director of the National Defense College.
In her opening speech, Dr. Abir Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, welcomed the distinguished guest and attendees, emphasizing the importance of instilling awareness of national security issues among young people and preparing a conscious generation aware of its national responsibilities. She highlighted that building the university student’s character depends on strengthening their sense of belonging to their homeland and understanding their role in preserving its resources and contributing to its development. She also extended her gratitude to the university administration and the Military Education Department for their continued efforts in organizing such awareness events that help build the consciousness of Alexandria University students.
During the seminar, Major General Bahgat Mohamed Farid discussed the concept of national security as the state’s comprehensive ability to protect its resources and achieve stability and sustainable development. He pointed out that Egypt has successfully faced numerous challenges in recent years thanks to the awareness and unity of its people behind their political leadership, especially in light of regional conflicts and attempts to undermine its stability. He also reviewed the major challenges and threats that Egypt has encountered throughout its history, along with the state’s efforts across various fields of development under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which have restored Egypt’s leading regional and international status. In conclusion, he urged students to verify information carefully and to stay away from false rumors aimed at undermining national unity and stability.
For his part, Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department at Alexandria University, affirmed that these seminars come within a comprehensive plan to raise awareness of national issues and strengthen students’ sense of belonging. He stressed that awareness is the first line of defense for the nation and that youth are the main pillar in confronting attempts to spread misinformation and rumors.
The seminar was attended by the faculty’s vice deans, members of the teaching staff and their assistants, a large number of students, and officials from the Military Education Department at the university.
