As part of Alexandria University’s commitment to promoting enlightened thought and fostering the values of tolerance and moderation among its students, and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Nursing organized an awareness seminar, entitled “Renewing Religious Discourse and Building Youth Awareness”, held at the faculty conference hall.

The seminar was attended by Prof. Dr. Hanan Hosny El-Sherbini, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Sahar Mansour Lamada, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Lamiaa Khamees El-Shafie, University Student Activities Coordinator, along with faculty members and students.

The seminar was delivered by Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim El-Gammal, Director General of the Department of Preaching and Religious Media at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in Alexandria. He discussed the concept and importance of renewing religious discourse to keep pace with contemporary changes while maintaining the core principles and values of Islam. He emphasized that renewal does not mean altering the essence of faith but rather developing the methods of religious communication to address societal needs and counter extremist ideologies.

In her speech, Prof. Dr. Hanan Hosny El-Sherbini welcomed the attendees, stressing that sound religious awareness is a cornerstone in building an enlightened university character. She affirmed the University’s keenness to instill values of moderation and national belonging among its students.

Prof. Dr. Sahar Mansour Lamada added that the Faculty continually seeks to integrate cultural and intellectual dimensions into the university education system, aiming to prepare a generation capable of engaging positively with national and societal issues.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Lamiaa Khamees El-Shafie explained that the seminar is part of Alexandria University’s strategy to build students’ awareness and promote enlightened thinking through various educational and voluntary activities organized throughout the academic year.

The event witnessed great interaction from students, who actively participated in discussions about the principles of moderation in Islam and the vital role of youth in building awareness and preserving the Egyptian identity.
