As part of Alexandria University’s commitment to raising students’ awareness of national security issues, and under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces, represented by the Military Education Department, in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering, organized an educational lecture entitled “Regional Challenges and Their Impact on National Security.” The lecture was delivered by Major General (Eng.) Osama El-Gamal, Military Expert and Advisor at Nasser Higher Military Academy, at the Faculty’s Conference Hall.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Walid Abdel-Azim El-Borqi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, stressed that the most dangerous challenge facing Egypt’s youth today is the “war of knowledge and information” and the attempts to influence public opinion through the spread of malicious rumors. He emphasized his full confidence in the awareness of Egyptian youth, their love for their homeland, and their ability to defend it.
For his part, Major General Osama El-Gamal reviewed the most prominent challenges facing Egypt’s national security, pointing to schemes aimed at dividing the Arab region and redrawing its map through foreign interventions and fueling sectarian conflicts. He also touched on the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the pressures it poses on Egypt, affirming that the political leadership is managing this file wisely and with full awareness of Egypt’s historical rights to the Nile waters.
He also addressed developments in the Palestinian cause, highlighting Egypt’s historic and pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian people and defending their just cause, as well as its continuous regional and international efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire and prevent any attempts to undermine the issue.
The university students expressed their deep appreciation for the great national role played by the Egyptian Armed Forces in protecting the homeland and defending its vital causes.
In his remarks, Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department at Alexandria University, stressed that organizing such lectures and educational seminars is part of an integrated strategy aimed at building students’ awareness of the challenges facing the nation and instilling values of belonging and loyalty. He noted that university students represent the first line of defense in confronting rumors and fourth-generation warfare, through their awareness, perception, and positive energy that are capable of protecting Egypt’s future and safeguarding its resources.
At the end of the event, Major General Osama El-Gamal expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Popular and Military Defense Forces for their efforts in raising university students’ awareness of current challenges. He also praised the distinguished role of the Military Education Department at Alexandria University in organizing a series of lectures and educational activities that contribute to enhancing students’ national awareness and sense of belonging.
