Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konswa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Economics and Political Science organized its third annual conference, which was held under the title: Faculty of Economics and Political Science between reality and development challenges
Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty, stressed in his speech during the opening of the conference the need to develop the content of the scientific curricula of the courses and add some other courses in line with the ongoing developments in the educational process at the global level, especially with regard to topics dealing with artificial intelligence, sustainable development and climate in order to raise the efficiency and quality of the educational process. He also pointed out the need to add a third qualitative specialization and increase the number of hours. He also stressed the faculty's keenness to apply for the accreditation and quality certificate, encourage faculty members and assistants to publish research papers in prestigious scientific journals, and support community service activities. He also pointed to the prominent role played by the Training and Rehabilitation Unit for the Labor Market, and suggested many mechanisms through which students can be encouraged to participate in the various activities offered by the faculty. He thanked all members of the faculty, assistants and administrators And the service members assisted in the effort made throughout the past academic year in various sectors of the faculty.
In his speech, Dr. Osama Al-Adly, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, stressed that the educational process at the college has become a continuous process that does not stop throughout the year in light of the credit hour system and the noticeable development in the degree of regularity witnessed by the summer semester (which reached forty courses in the two departments) over the previous period. He also reviewed the most prominent strengths that distinguished the Education and Student Affairs Sector at the faculty during the past year, and the weaknesses that must be confronted, addressed and tried to avoid.
Dr. Sherine Nasr, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, addressed the various axes of this sector represented in graduate studies affairs, scientific research, the library, and the scientific journal. She pointed out the most prominent challenges faced by the graduate studies sector in all its axes, and pointed out the tremendous developments witnessed by the college library, most notably the trend towards providing library services electronically. In her evaluation of the college's scientific journal, Dr. Sherine pointed out the magazine's evaluation progress according to the Supreme Council of Universities since 2020 until it reached 7/7 points in 2023, and stressed the college's keenness to establish partnerships, protocols and joint degrees with prestigious foreign universities, colleges, research and academic institutions, as well as organizing seminars to introduce graduate students and encourage them to publish scientifically locally and internationally.
Dr. Abeer Shaaban, Executive Director of the English Language Study Program, also reviewed the most prominent achievements related to the English Language Study Program at the college, the most prominent development challenges facing the program that are being worked on, and the proposals that would raise the educational and academic efficiency of the program.
The first session of the conference discussed the papers presented by Dr. Ahmed Mandour, Head of the Department of Economics at the faculty, and Dr. Mamdouh Mansour, Head of the Department of Political Science, which addressed the most prominent challenges and proposals that would raise educational efficiency in the two scientific departments.
The second session addressed various visions for development and interventions of the various units in the faculty, interventions from faculty members, assistants and student representatives.
The conference concluded with a number of recommendations to be implemented in the academic year 2024/2025.
