Dr Ashraf El-Ghandour, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, witnessed the activities of the symposium on “Management, Sustainability and Strategic Planning for the Centre of Excellence for Water at Alexandria University”, in the presence of Dr. Said Allam, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Graduate Studies and Research and Executive Director of the Center, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Wael El-Meghlani, Acting Vice-Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Dina El-Gayar, Deputy Director of the Project Management Unit at the University, and representatives of American and Egyptian universities participating in the center, as well as a group of faculty members, specialists and experts.

In his speech, Dr. Ashraf El-Ghandour stressed that the project of the Water Excellence Center at Alexandria University is working to find solutions to the expected water problems in light of population growth and the serious challenges we are currently facing. El-Ghandour expressed his hope that the workshop will come out with recommendations that contribute to achieving sustainability for the Water Excellence Center, which represents an expert house to provide practical solutions to all challenges related to the field of water in Egypt.

Dr. Said Allam indicated that the workshop discusses the strategic plan for the center, which works to support learning and applied research in the field of water, as well as work to address the most important challenges facing Egypt in sustainable water management.

While Dr. Essam Wahba confirmed that the workshop discusses the sustainability plan and the governance system of the center, which is concerned with studying the latest developments in the fields of science and scientific research and new uses of technology in the field of water, as well as providing consultations and training services in the field of water in line with the national strategy of the country’s sustainable development plan “Egypt Vision 2030”.

The joint collaboration between #HBMSU in Dubai UAE & Alexandria University in Egypt is the first of its kind in the Arab world, resulting in an academic program that earned accreditation from the concerned ministries of education in both countries; “Master of Science in Innovation and Change Management”.

This will contribute to opening a new level of education and support the Arab youth to adopt a modern vision for learning.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Physical Education for Men in Abu Qir organized the second scientific forum in sports medicine and locomotor system research. It was held under the title “Together We Can: Anti-doping in the Sports Field” at the conference hall of the faculty, in the presence of a group of faculty members, employees and students.
 
 
Dr. Mohamed Belal, Dean of the Faculty, indicated that the conference comes within a series of scientific forums for sports medicine and locomotor system studies, which the college is keen to organize in the presence of specialists in this field.
 
 
 
During the forum activities, Dr. Maged Osama, Secretary General of the Association of Clinical Nutritionists in Alexandria, held a lecture on nutritional supplements - their benefits and harms, and ways to combat stimulants, and the role of the International Anti-Doping Organization (WADA). Mohieddin Nabil Al-Jaafari, sports pharmacist and anti-doping consultant at the Medical Committee of the Egyptian Football Association and the Egyptian Olympic Committee, about some medicines that are used as nutritional supplements and their danger to humans and the danger of using some cold medicines, which are considered prohibited substances for athletes. Sahar Issa, Professor of Forensic Medicine, Clinical Toxicology, and Medical Ethics at the College of Medicine, on ways to combat doping and its danger, considering it a means of fraud by some individuals to win a position or a medal at the expense of others, stressing the danger of these substances to the kidneys, liver, and human health. Majdi Mustafa Al-Sabbagh, Consultant Sports Medicine, Bone, Joint and Rheumatology Diseases and Director of Sports Medicine at the Olympic Center for National Teams, Member of the Doping Committee of the International Federation of Weapons FIE), on how to take samples from players directly after sports competitions and how to send them to international laboratories for analysis, then he talked about anti-doping And its danger to the health of athletes and how the International Anti-Doping Organization (WADA) was established, which approved several provisions, rules and laws to limit the spread of doping among athletes participating in the International Olympic Games. Osama Ghoneim, former CEO of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization and former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for Sports Medicine.
Prof. Dr. Akram El-Dawoudi, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon and Arthroscopy at Alexandria University Hospitals, announced,
At the end of the meeting, the following recommendations were made:
1. Expanding the base of education and awareness for college students about the harmful effects of industrial doping on players and teams.
2. Conducting courses and seminars aimed at combating doping and learning about the harms and dangers of these internationally prohibited stimulants.
3. Adding an anti-doping subject in the college curricula, which is taught to students by amending the description of some subjects related to sports health and nutrition, to increase students' health awareness and to identify the dangers of taking internationally prohibited doping for athletes.
4. Organizing specialized courses in the field of anti-doping for athletes in the external community.

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Sixth International Conference of the Faculty of Agriculture was held under the title “The Future of Livestock and Food Security,” organized by the Department of Animal and Fish Production at the Faculty of Agriculture in cooperation with the Egyptian Society for Animal Production. The conference lasted for three days, in the presence of specialists from Egyptian universities and research institutes, as well as various Arab and foreign universities, former vice presidents of the university, deans and vice deans of agricultural faculties from Egyptian universities, and public figures from the Fisheries Resources Authority and the Food Safety Authority.

Dr. Mohmed Bahey El-Din Mohamed, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, indicated that the conference activities included discussing many important issues, most notably food security. He explained that the sessions discussed several topics related to sustainable development goals in light of climate change and water scarcity, reformulating the livestock strategy and correcting its path to provide animal resources, as well as the reality and future of the poultry and fisheries industry, the focus of modern technologies, linking and intersecting sciences, and their role in improving the performance of farm animals and their production efficiency.

Dr. Heba Sabry Salama, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, indicated that more than 300 professors from universities, institutes, research centres and those interested in livestock participated in the conference. The activities included a workshop on industrial applications of nanotechnology and microbiology for the sustainable development of livestock in light of climate change. The conference also included online scientific sessions in which professors from Spain, China, Japan, Mexico, and Turkey and a group of university and research centre professors participated. Sessions were also conducted on fish farming and the use of magnetic water technology on the performance of farm animals.

Dr. Heba Salama also indicated holding a session on poultry wealth and modern techniques in animal nutrition to maximize productivity of farm animals. She added that the conference’s recommendations emphasized the necessity of making optimal use of research related to what is known as gene expression, transcriptomics, and propium in improving the productivity of farm animals, while adapting the rapid development in estimating the outcomes of various metabolic processes to benefit from this in achieving sustainable development of livestock, especially after it has become a necessity with the increase in conducting research related to the genetic improvement of Egyptian animals as a main means to achieve sustainable development of livestock, poultry and fish wealth. The conference also recommended the need to take quick executive measures to establish a gene bank or local animal genetic assets, and work to complete the production chain of the poultry industry, whether in the commercial or rural sector, in order to ensure the continued sustainable development of this important component of the livestock sector, which represents the fulfilment of an important part of individuals’ needs for animal protein, with the need to pay attention to reducing the intermediate links in marketing poultry and its products, which contributes to reducing the cost of production and lowering prices.

The Institute for Mediterranean Studies launched the activities of its third cultural season on the 29th of October, by holding a public symposium entitled “200 years of Egyptology: making historical documentaries” and showing the film “200 years of Egyptology”, which was produced by Egyptian television and shown in the Good Morning Egypt program on the occasion of the 200th anniversary On deciphering the Rosetta Stone. The Institute hosted Mr. Mustafa Kafafi, a media personality and a documentary film maker, to present and comment on the film.
