Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Alexandria University Cultural Salon organized an educational and awareness symposium entitled "Women's Issues between Reality and Aspirations", in which a group of faculty members and intellectuals of Alexandria participated, in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Nursing in Smouha.

In his speech, Counselor Mohamed Samir, Deputy Head of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, spoke about the most important modern legislations that confirm the state's endeavours towards achieving the protective dimension in the national strategy and Egypt's 2030 strategy.

Dr. Magda El-Shazly, rapporteur of the National Council for Women, Alexandria branch, explained the pioneering role of the National Council for Women in serving civil society, especially in poor areas.

As for the medical aspect, Dr. Wafaa El-Sehli, Professor of Forensic Medicine and former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development, gave a full explanation by presenting the most important forms of violence that girls and women are exposed to in poor and developing societies and ways to eliminate them.

Dr. Manal Fouda, Executive Director of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women at the university, introduced university students to the pioneering role of the Unit, stressing that its main role is awareness. She pointed out that university youth have a fundamental role as ambassadors for spreading peace, and she also showed a short film on violence provided by volunteers of the unit.

Dr. Sahar Sherif, former vice dean of the Faculty of Arts for Community Service and Environmental Development, expressed her pleasure at the success of the symposium, being the first activity of the Alexandria University Cultural Salon for the academic year 2023.

The symposium was attended by Dr. Baheya Galal, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Dr. Salah Suleiman, University Coordinator for the Community Issues Course, Coordinators of the Unit for Combating Violence, in addition to a group of faculty members, the Faculty of Arts Students Union team under the supervision of Dr. Nadia Abdelqader, as well as a number of civil society and media leaders.
