Under the directives of Dr. Abdulaziz Kansooh, President of Alexandria University, to upgrade the security and safety system within the campus and to complement civil protection procedures and ensure the working environment, safety and occupational health, The Secretary-General's sector organized the university in cooperation with the training centre of the Civil Protection Department of the Ministry of Interior in Alexandria Training course for staff of the University's colleges and institutes from 4 to 8 February 2024 Training in civil protection work, during which personnel were trained in firefighting and emergency evacuation work Mr. Mohammed Abu Al-Nasser, Secretary General of the University, stressed that this training is aimed at preserving the competence and ability of workers in dealing with such situations in such a way as to preserve property and lives as well as to meet occupational safety and health requirements.

Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, congratulated, during the Education and Student Affairs Council meeting held today, Dr. Ibrahim Rehab, emeritus professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Advisor to the University President for African Affairs, and Dr. Sameh Nakhla, Director of the University’s Measurement and Evaluation Centre, for the decree issued by Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, to appoint them as members of the Education and Student Affairs Council.

• The university vice president stressed the importance of the role of academic advisors in providing academic support to students at the beginning of the second semester, introducing them to the educational systems and regulations, encouraging the outstanding and gifted, helping the struggling students to raise the academic level, developing the students’ personal abilities, solving their problems, and correcting their academic path. Dr. Abdelmohsen indicated the necessity of making every effort to provide facilities and overcome obstacles facing university students with special needs. He also thanked the deans and vice deans of the faculties for the good management of the examination process for the first semester, praising the level of order and discipline in the examination committees.
 
 
 
• Within the framework of the state’s strategy to combat drug addiction among youth in general and university students in particular, the university vice president directed faculty deans to launch student awareness events and initiatives to spread awareness of the danger of addiction, including giving lectures, holding educational seminars, and organizing activities in all faculties.
 
 
 
• The Council approved in principle a proposal for cooperation between the Applied Linguistics Program (English Language Division) at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University and the Applied Languages Program at Manchester Metropolitan University in Britain to improve the English language communication skills of the program’s students at the two universities.
 
 
 
• The Council was informed of the issues that were discussed at the Supreme Council for Education and Student Affairs, including the formation of a higher committee to improve the quality of the university e-book, and the cooperation agreement between the Supreme Council of Universities and the British Council regarding conducting and training for the International English Language Test (IELTS) with the aim of facilitating the process for students.
 
 
 
• The Council witnessed a presentation by Dr. Sameh Nakhla, Director of the University’s Measurement and Evaluation Centre, to review the university’s course results report for Fall 2023 semester.

The Alexandria University Rover Scouts team won first place in the competitions of the 31st Summit for Rover Scouts, which was held at Tanta University, with the participation of 13 Egyptian universities.
 
 
Team leader Enar Mohamed won the Ideal Leader Award, while student Maryam Abdelqader won the Ideal Speaker Award. In addition, student Habiba Ibrahim won the Ideal Female Scout Award, and her colleague Adham Ehab received the Ideal Male Scout Award.
 
 
The Alexandria University team was accompanied by the team’s coaches, Mr. Marwan El-Hennawy and Mr. Mohamed Ali, as well as Mr. Sameh Hamouda Ahmed, Director of the Scouts and Public Service Department, Ms. Hind Alimi, and Ms. Marwa Gamal, scouts supervisors.

This initiative comes within the framework of Alexandria University’s keenness to implement educational awareness programs for students and spread the culture of awareness of the harms and dangers of drug addiction, and it is organized by the University Students Union in cooperation with the Fund for Combating Drug Abuse and Addiction, the General Administration of Youth Welfare, the Health Education Department of the General Administration of Therapeutic Units, and the General Administration of University Campuses.

With attendance of more than 400 male and female students from different faculties, the session aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of drug addiction and abuse, ways of prevention, and providing psychological support.
Speakers at the event included Dr. Tarek Molokhia, Professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Nabil Allam, Coordinator of the Fund for Combating Substance Abuse in Alexandria Governorate, and His Eminence Sheikh/Atta Abdelmaqsoud Farrag, the preacher of the University City Mosque. It was attended by Mr. Mamdouh Abbas, Director General of University Cities, Dr. Omar El-Ibrashi, General Director of Therapeutic Units, Mr. Shihab Mahrous, Director General of Youth Welfare, Mr. Mohamed Fawzi, Director of the Student Union Administration, Dr. Maha Hamed Khalifa, Director of the Preventive Affairs Department, Dr. Sarah Mandour, health education officer at the administration, and Omar Afifi, president of the Student Union.

The “We Are with You” initiative is the result of cooperation between many parties inside and outside the university. The students interacted with many different inquiries and questions about the topic of the session. Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Acting Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University organized a symposium entitled “ The dangers of addiction and its negative effects on the individual and society.” The symposium was attended by Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in addition to several faculty members, department heads, civil society representatives, and medicine students at Alexandria University.

The attendees, including experts and specialists in the field of drug control, gave lectures on the societal role played by various state institutions in combating addiction and caring for those recovering from it, clarifying misconceptions about addiction, the relationship between mental illness and drug misuse. They also discussed the latest treatment programs for stimulants and the new types of drugs, and their impact on society and the system of moral values, as combating addiction and drugs contributes to protecting society and individuals from this imminent danger that affects them. The experts also explained the negative effects of drug addiction on the individual and society, the role of the family in primary prevention, as it is the first barrier for children, and methods for early detection of addiction.
